Getting perfect IVs and EV training has always been with the franchise, yo. Even then, there were sites like Azure Heights and GameFAQS that gave detailed guides on how to get max stats.
>>16439263"Karenfag" and "Smogonfags" in this day and age are just empty-as-fuck insults.
These days, karenfag refers to someone who intentionally use weak Pokemon, dogmatically believes that use of any legendaries to be dishonorable regardless of how good they actually are, and shits on people who use any OU Pokemon, and believes that anyone who likes OU Pokemon just like them for their power, not their design.
These days, smogonfags are people who use the same team, and obsessively breed and grind to get them. To them, if a Pokemon it is not OU on Smogon, it is shit and thus not worthwhile. They fully endorse and unquestionably supports any ban Smogon makes.
So, moral of the story? If you must label yourself, don't use karenfag/smogonfag. They're nothing but strawmanned as fuck terms that have lost their meaning on here. Just say that you're a "casual competitive player." You are aware of all the competitive mechanics, but you use it to use the Pokemon you like, not to be the very best.
>>16439512So have I, and I've been involved in the competitive scene there too. And yes, there was a competitive community back then as well. And it's only gotten more and more popular as the community's grown. Even in the Gen 3 days, big-name Pokemon sites like Serebii and Bulbagarden had plenty of people who would put stupid "anti-competitive" signatures in their profiles, saying that Pokemon should not be treated as tools of war, etc.
Pokemon is a franchise with many aspects to it. One of it is competitive, which has always been there. Deal with it.
