I know you're going to say MUH FIRST TWO GYMS, but let's be honest Bulbasaur is the hardmode choice but a scrub like you probably wouldn't get that because MUH FIRE DRAGON.

I used to enter TCG tournaments as a kid and got annoyed when I fought a player who had a niggabillion cards to choose from. Most of us were poor or didnt have parents. In my case it was both. I was stupid and thought these kids were blessed with money and rich parents to afford all these cards.
It wasn't until I learned the kids parents got them the cards, yes, but thats all they gave them. Their parents didnt give them the time of day or anything else and sometimes the kid would sell their shit just to buy more cards. This card game was all they had going for them. I felt like a real dick...

I've picked the Grass starter every gen i think. Bulba/Venusaur started it but the fact theres decent Water & Fire Pokemon early on in every game Grass made more sense

In Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green, Venusaur's Razor Leaf was a 100% critical hit move.

That's 110 BP of Amnesia-ignoring spammable goodness. It was easy mode.

if Venasaur outspeed the opponent, because of high High crit moves workd in Gen1, it as 100%.

It's why Slash Persian was so powerful in Gen1 multiplayer, STAB 100% crit 70BP move, and persian was only outsped by Jolteon and Electrode.

To have a 100% to land a Critical Hit with a High CH Ratio move in RBY, you need a Pokémon with at least base 56 Speed if I remember well.

Venusaur have 80 Base Speed.

In 1st Gen Critical Hits are based on Speed, that's why Tauros and Jolteon lands a fuck ton of Critical Hits back then.

I always preferred Charizard just because its evolutionary line made more sense.

Cute fire lizard -> cool fire lizard -> cool fire dragon
Cure blue turtle -> elegant turtle with hair -> cool turtle with cannons and no more hair

Bulbasaur line also has a consistent theme, but it's a shame Venusaur is so ugly.
