Gligar was one of my most favorite Pokemon in GSC.
I don't like how Gliscor looks though, especially the eyes so my interest in Gligar and Gliscor have drifted away since Gen IV.

I have that same feel with Scyther and Murkrow. I loved both those Pokemon as a kid, but I dont like their evolved forms. I just hate that they're not really viable in battle.

Scyther is usable, he's the only pre-evolved Pokemon to have the same BST of his evolution. It's just distributed differently, the only reason he's not very viable is his typing.

Scyther is so different from Scizor that you dont have to evolve him. Its not like Gligar where you have to evolve it because Gliscor is just a bigger stronger version

It's funny how much people underestimate Scyther just because he's not the final evo, iirc their base stats are very similar, the big change is typing.

But the typing is shit.
Rusing rubble rapes Scyther, he doesn't get any decent fly stab moves and instead loses out on things like stab bullet punch.

He's not underrated or anything, he's just not as good.

Knock Off is a pretty funny way of taking this guy out. You have to pull it off before the end of his first turn in play though.

Skarmory is a hard counter and can freely set up all the Spikes it wants for as long as Gliscor stays in.

Taunt cripples this thing badly, so something like a Mandibuzz which is immune to Earthquake and quite bulky works very well too.

I had a shuckle use entrainment on my Gliscor once....it was of mild annoyance but if it was my last pokemon he would have won.

Adamant/Jolly Scyther with Technician is incredibly effective in UU. Throw his EVs in Speed and HP, give him an Eviolite to hold and Swords Dance.
Make him learn Aerial Ace, Bug Bite and some other attack OR Roost.
This set works surprisingly well, no one's expecting a defensive Scyther.
