So we all know you and your friend need to be online in-game at the same time to register each other's third Pokemon.
But I also heard that you have to do this in order to find any Hidden Ability Pokemon in their safari. Is this true?

Lately, people who are still on my friends list are turning back into shadows with question marks, even if they haven't unfriended me either. Can I still find Hidden Ability Pokemon in their safaris?

No, but I have been adding and deleting a lot of people on my friends list.
I think the game is forgetting about the people that I added first.

What if that friend deletes you but you don't delete them? Can you still get 3rd poke?

It just happens as you delete and add more people.

But to answer your original question, as long as you've found it in the safari before, you can always find it there afterwards regardless of whether you've been deleted, aren't online, etc.

Hidden Abilities can be found even if the person has never been online. They just need to be online to unlock the third Pokemon.

So you DON'T need to be online at the same time to find hidden abilities? I've caught a shit ton of certain pokemon looking for natures and still haven't seen a hidden ability

It means they've added you to their friends list, but you haven't both been online in-game at the same time.

And, apparently, friends that you've already seen online can revert to this state if you add and remove a lot of people.

I was nature hunting since I lack dittos, not looking for abilities or trying to anyway. I just though with the tons of pokemon I caught I'd have at least one with a hidden ability. So we both don't need to be online for the hidden and it's just bad luck?

Breeding a Hidden Ability female with a Ditto yields offspring with only regular abilities.

The only reason why they added the whole "Breed a HA Male with a Ditto and the offspring have a chance of hatching with their Hidden Ability" was to make IV breeding certain 'mons (Pokemon species with a higher male-to-female ratio or male-only 'mons) easier.
