My boyfriend's cousin is around 10 years old and LOVES his Soul Silver version. Whenever there is a family gathering, he glues himself to my side because I am a walking pokedex to him. After Thanksgiving dinner, I was helping him get to the Ice Path: the furthest he's ever made it.

I want to get him a players guide for Christmas. I can't afford to get him Black or White, and I think it would be too big of a gift. I already asked his mom and confirmed that he's not getting any more Pokemon games for Christmas. My question for /vp/ is what guide do you think would be best for him? On Amazon, there's a pokedex and an official guide. Let me reiterate: This kid's about 10, and I blew his mind when I told him that there are eight more badges to get after the first eight. Does the pokedex have a walkthrough in it, or should I get the guide?

Oh, before anyone says anything, he doesn't have consistent access to the internet and his parents are pretty technophobic, so just giving him a link to Bulbapedia or Serebii is way out of the question. Plus, I have a lot of fond memories of flipping through my physical guides when I was his age.
