What's up /vp/? I want to try running Mega Aggron in a few wifi battles and want to know if anybody has any recommended sets for him. At the moment, I am planning on running:

Rest
Sleep Talk
Heavy Slam
Head Smash

I plan on running it with a swords dance + baton passing scollipede to give it decent sweep potential, but I'm curious as to what you guys think.

autotomize

just set up with autotomize against a physical attacker and sweep, using stealth rock if they try and stall with something like ferro

Is Rest+Sleep Talk really so useful?

I keep imagining that I would keep being unlucky and Sleep Talk would just call Rest again, wasting a turn.

It is a risky play, but Aggron has no other recovery besides the usage of wish, which requires you to switch out and set up again. I've personally been luck for the numerous times I've run other rest+talk pokemon, but I know people who just keep resting.

Compare the weight of other pokemon you'll mostly be going up against. Heavy slam is usually 120+STAB which ends up around at the 140 mark. Sure, Mega TTar, Steelix and Mamoswine can become a hassle, but I have other pokemon designed to counter those pokemon already since they all share common weaknesses.

This literally went on repeat for about 15 turns until I hit a toxic and then just rest stalled him. It was horrible but it was worth it in the end.

The beauty of the set lies precisely in how like most everybody else in the thread is using MAggron, when someone sees it they expect bulky offense. That gives you the perfect opportunity to set up rocks and start phazing, at which point half your moveslots are still completely unknown. If you manage to catch something off-guard, you can T-Wave and Iron Head to try and paraflinch for as long as you can.
The nature and EVs in HP and Attack boost its admittedly lackluster HP and allow it to do a reasonable amount of damage, while not overallocating from defense to offense.
I've been running this MAggron and boy is it strangely successful. Partner it with a cleric/special sponge like Florges and you have a great combination of two great walls.

I don't think you would need to fully bump up Atk, I'd go for 252HP 252Sp. Def and 4 Atk.
There's genuinely no need to even put any EV's in Aggron's Def. His attack is good on it's own. His Sp. Def is pretty subpar and he has poor HP to back up such defenses. Putting investment in his Sp.Def would help him stand his ground to special moves, since he doesn't really have physical ones to worry about.

That's a pretty reasonable argument, and after running some calcs max investment into SpD does change a few 2HKOs into 3HKOs. I can understand why SpD investment is certainly another option, but the way my party is set up I don't need to focus on SpD because I have Florges to take care of that. On top of that, no investment into Attack leaves it at just over 300 Attack, which is really kind of lacking by my standards. I know I said that my set doesn't focus as much on straight-up attacking, but without the damage boost some mons do require an extra hit to KO.

Regardless, I do see where you're coming from and it's certainly food for thought.

Obviously don't go mega if there's something you can knock out with Head Smash and there aren't any Fighting or Ground threats.
