Idea here:

Postgame battle gauntlet with EVERY protagonist available for fight (yes, even May/Brendan. Write it off with a plot device, or by going full meta) using a team voted on by /vp/ that's "canon enough" for each of them.

Your reward for beating them all?
the ability to switch your sprite with them and thus "play as them", for shits and giggles.

Oh and you can do something stupid like give them speaking lines too.

Well, considering the protagonists don't all live in the same region and would have no reason to be there, and having the ability to turn into them seems too.. 4th wall. The game should treat you as a character, not a player.

What do you mean? You touch the celebi, you get teleported to a new map with a old tileset.. but.. you'd have to have all of the pokemon's sprites as old versions.. ah. I get it now.

Well that's why it's an easter egg. They don't really have to have an explanation in the canon, as long as it's neat and enjoyable. Kindof like the PWT, just a lot smaller, since you've only got 15 characters to work with.

Oh and the reward was just something I pulled from the ass there. Maybe it then allows you to purchase another set of cool Secret Base items or the other protagonists will trade you an otherwise-unobtainable 'mon or a special pokemon (like that one Pikachu with Surf or Fly, just as a nod to those event 'mons)

Just throwing out ideas here. I want to contribute in a small part to make sure that this is the best fangame it can be.

"Dream World"

Actual dungeon with dreamlike quality. Place where all of the mons you find in their have their dream world ability. At the end is a gauntlet with all the Protags of the other games, like an Elite 4 type gauntlet. At the end is a statue/sphere/whatever that when touched turns your pokemon's ability into its dream world ability.

Okay I like this a lot. It gives dream world abilities AND makes the "all-protag" thing canon. The statue ability changer should have a cost, though. like, you have to challenge a certain wandering protag in the dreamworld to earn a certain type point.

Well, I'm glad you incorporated my idea. I just hope you can battle them outside of that one-at-a-time just to take it easy. That was my biggest complaint about the PWT. If I wanted to battle a specific leader, there wasn't even a guarantee that I'd battle them that time anyway.

Well I must leave now, I hope the idea goes somewhere. Maybe OP should create a checklist/repository for all the ideas here.

Oh something I forgot to mention is that while you have a LOT of talent and you're displaying it here pretty well, I'd reccomend that you try putting some more percussion in your work. A big part of Hoenn's soundtrack, oddly enough, is the percussion. So don't skimp! Even on the more whimsical tracks, a very light, soft drumline works a world of wonders.

As for RSE/RBY it's because you can directly trade between the two without a Time Machine.

As for GSC/DPPt it's because of direct trading between DPPt and HGSS, the red Gyarados discovery being mentioned in the beginning in DP, and Jasmine's appearence in Sinnoh.(which is slightly after Gen II, as explained in HGSS)

As for BW, i'm not entirely sure. There aren't as many connections to older games in this one, but it's implied it takes place a few years after Gen II/IV.

I'm sorry for the trees having like 1 column of pixels cut off. It's a separate tile, might be a bit of a problem.

Either way, it's obvious that they need to be reworked to what we're going for now, so that's what I'm going to do. I'll follow Anon's design closely since that seems to be commonly regarded as good.

What TM listing are we going to use? All of GF's remakes have used modernized ones. Gen 6's is pretty nice, but has a couple shitty ones. I say we use Gen 6's TM listing, but we replace some of the dud TMs like Confide with some Hoenn classics like Focus Punch.

How do we feel about merging the Pokecenter and Mart together like the current games? We could use the spots for the old pokemarts to use as a new house/Hotel or some kind of interactive event in each town. Like in the first mart location you can have a guy there that you can pay to give massages to your pokemon a certain number of times to increase happiness, or something that would be more useful in the early-game.

Good potential events couldd surround the wish rock in mossdeep, altering cave(which didn't really get a use), or the lore of the ancient civilization the used to occupy hoenn. (the ones that made the baltoy line, the orbs, and sealed the regis.) Hoenn has plenty of material to work with without bringing outside regions for events or story.

I had to resize it because the one I had was way too small, I guess something got lost in translation along the way.
There were a lot of artifacts from trying to make it transparent, which for some reason it was not, but I left them in temporarily so I could get to mapping.

Actually, scratch that, this tileset isn't transparent either. The white spaces NEED to be transparent when saving the png, otherwise there will be huge white spaces covering the other layers.

I'll work on making it transparent later, but in the future everybody PLEASE make sure your tilesets have transparency.

I'd say Sinnoh is the best region, Hoenn is comparable too but the water routes just drag it down too much. Unova and Kalos are really disappointing after tasting both Hoenn and Sinnoh.

Kanto and Johto were designed with the crippling Gameboy limitations so they're not contenders for best region design at all.

putting aside that Kalos is really linear too (but at least better than Unova). That's just an illusion because the character models are bigger and the player gets to move so fast early on. Comparing it by tiles, Kalos is quite big.

the problem with Hoenn was that there weren't enough cave routs to balance out all the water. There was the short gave bipasing the lift, there was the cave where you had to find steven, and there was the team magma hideout.

IMHO we should expand the cave under mt chimney and possibly have it lead (post game) to the northern coast of the island which can then be explored.

Here's an idea: let's convert those useless islands that made it into the region map in the first game into something useful.

Specifically, the ones out near Pacifidlog town.

There is one thing we need to handle though as a group: Has anyone thought about a solution to the fact that the HGSS tileset doesn't have underwater tiles? A big part of Hoenn was, of course, the Dive Spots. But as far as I'm aware, the tileset we're using can't jive with that whole concept. So we're going to need to remedy that, desert tiles/mirage tower, and the ashy areas near Fallarbour town. Everything else should be fine as far as I'm aware. Does HGSS have lava tiles like Platinum does? We could use that for the Magma Base/Mt. Chimney.

And something I'm going to keep reitorating until we can get some productive discussion on it:
OP/whoever manages the forums/whoever heads up this project should make a repository of all the community-generated ideas that appear in these threads, since I doubt most browsing anons are going to sign up for the forums and we might lose record of great ideas ever existing. Hell, it could be a text document with just a list of stuff in it. All that matters is that we don't let good ideas pass us by.

I tell ya what. It's because May's theme doesn't have those snappy drums that Brendan's theme has. They're MUCH softer in hers. Just as well, that keyboard or whatever the fuck it is isn't strong enough to be a lead instrument for May's Encounter. Good Bass though.

Route 101 though just needs to be redone wholesale. This is one case in which the lower quality of the original was a bonus to the track and not a negative. Dare I say, you need to add some French Horns

I will say it again...

Something that would fix water routes: HUGE variety of water Pokemon while surfing even if they weren't available in the original Hoenn games. Ideally, all the water Pokemon available. Also, very few Pokemon need to be fished, make them appear while surfing please.

That is an idea with potential. But also a lot of potential for bad execution. Let me just say it right now: if you add too much variety, it's going to be a pain in the ass to fill the dex, because you're going to have to GO to those water routes searching for whatever rare fucking 'mon you don't have.

So I would vote to add three species to every water route. Not too much, not too little.

And here's Petalburg. The original felt kinda empty with the huge space that held the mart and the center, so I added some trees and flowers to spice it up. If anyone has any advice on the placement, I'll take all I can get.

The hedges were also kinda hard to work with, but at some point I'm going to make a tile that will connect them seamlessly.

Speaking of custom tiles, the houses were spliced from two different models, one I think was from Cherrygrove. I think it turned out nice.

Also, do you think we should go BW/XY style with our gyms and have each ones outside a custom desgin? I personally would like it and be willing to make them.

Baby steps, boys. The project just started and we're learning how to walk. But with all the tilesets and sprites we have permission to use, things are smooth sailing.

And speaking of sailing, have some Dewford progress I whipped up last night before bed.

I'm thinking of adding some resort houses to the bottom that will be accessible and rentalbe postgame, like in Platinum.

Done and done! I think it looks a lot better now.

The cuttable trees represent the blockage of a postgame area with resort houses and a beach that can lead to something postgame. If we don't want the beach, it can easily be covered by rocks and trees.

Oh! As for the buildings, they would be resorts like in Platinum, one of which you could rent and decorate (like a secret base) and the others would be inhabited by NPCs. There could be NPC/Leader rematches maybe.

Yes! Except the blue houses were customly spliced from different house sprites. And, the resorts and pools are from Platinum. I don't really know where the trees are from, but they're from the 4th/5th gen tileset mix we've been using.

Very sorry. I got distracted watching Hellsing Ultimate Abridged for a while but I'm working on that blueprint now. I'm thinking that I should just map out all the POSSIBLE additions to the map that we could make without actually adding any landmasses and keeping map design etiquette like even spacing, etc. Does that sound okay to you?

Well I tried to make a decent attempt that "maxing out" the amount of stuff that we could possibly fit into Hoenn without cluttering the map. I've allocated five areas where we can stick legendary events for the foreign legendaries without re-using the original Hoenn areas, so that we can maintain more of the canon. I didn't add a whole lot of cities or towns because I thought they'd be relatively useless: just more NPCs that take up data and spew garbage filler lines. I also wanted to ensure that water routes were semi-minimized, so I tried to create an "island hopping" experience with the dense island cluster (previously unused, sans the Battle Frontier) that wouldn't bore the player.

Just a blueprint, of course, but it's a possible route we can take that I think it pretty pragmatic.

That's cool if you don't want it. I was assuming Essentials even supported Contests so it's not skin off my back if the northern coast of Hoenn doesn't get an addition to it. What bothered me the most was how Fallarbour Town was basically the only thing up there and that its coast was inaccessible. Got any ideas? Sorry, I've played fan games, where they try to make the maps look pretty and more realistic from ABOVE. but when you actually play the game on the screen size, it ends up being a clusterfuck. the wall of trees thing gf has going might be a bit unrealistic, but it works better as a barrier than that style does.

Yours is definitely much better. The mountain tiles need to be recoloured to accommodate for the sand. Same with the area around the pools.

Also, the Mart and Pokecenter that I posted with that tileset are FR/LG buildings. Does it matter? They can always be changed at the end. Placeholders, right?

I prefer pic related's trees. Idk - might just be me.

The program I use (Mixcraft) lets me cut a track so I can separate the different sections, then put the right instruments on without it changing back. ex:
