I hate to say this, but after what they did with this one I hope they don't make another.

Such an incredible series of games for just a spin-off but all good things must come to an end I guess.

Did anyone out there actually like it? I'm having difficulty believing it.

Missions in this game give more rewards anyway so you don't really need to.

It seems this board has quite a problem with thinking that quality=quantity (HGSS and fascination with wanting a game with all regions just to list a few examples), which is absolute bullshit. This game isn't as bad as the bitter shitheads like to think it is.

The music was brilliant, the characters were done much better, and the storyline was a much needed improvement on the other games which was 90% pointless Guild filler and painfully obvious plot twists even a five year old could see coming miles away.

Who cares that a lot of the Pokemon were removed, you wouldn't even use more than a few of them anyways, same with the incredibly stupid argument that you can't recruit legendaries. Why the fuck would you even want to recruit a legendary? And features like hunger really didn't have to stay, all that did was take up an extra inventory space and didn't add anything to the games at all.

It's not the greatest game but it's still better than its predecessors stricktly because to the things that it DOES do are executed a lot better than they were in the previous games.

As if anything past the post-story events in any of the games was even worth playing. Hell, I actually preferred Gates to Explorers due to its improved story and graphics (and possibly soundtrack, but they were actually great in all three games)

I didn't care for most of the gen 5 pokemon which makes a lot of the characters dislikeable in the first place.
Also its true that they removed a bunch, but come on. I am pretty sure you saw more in other than the small handful they this game.

That being said, the story is good, great soundtrack, and the visuals/cutscenes are not that bad.

I still miss the quiz the most though. Or, you know, good pokemon that you can play as.

I mean, I like good music and a story too, but they're like bonuses, and should never come before actual gameplay. You say nobody should care about removing hundreds of Pokemon. Why should I care about the story of a Pokemon game above all else?

Have to disagree with you on this point. Hunger was a key mechanic to the PMD games because it added an important element of decision-making and resource management to the completion of long dungeons. With Hunger, if you reached the end of a difficult floor, you had to weigh whether you wanted to hold B to regenerate HP before moving on at the risk of growing hungry, or progress immediately with the risk of running into a dangerous room on the next floor without adequate HP.

Removing Hunger removed all penalty for simply waiting to regenerate your HP to full at the end of every floor and thus trivialized the entire game bar the endgame dungeons that reintroduced Hunger. And even those were not designed well because you could not stock up on food beforehand; you were left completely to the whim of the drops in the dungeons themselves.

And come on, the visuals were gorgeous and the soundtrack is honestly my favorite album out of all of my music. I want another game just because of that music; if they make a compromise between the two games (visuals and aethsetics and soundfonts of GtI, story and gameplay of EOS) it'd be easily one of my top favorite games.

But that's the only time hunger is a threat.
That goes for any pmd game.
It's because of the fact that you were able to prepare that hunger meant so little in the games. If you're entering a long dungeon just bring along some extra apples. Of some reviver seeds if you just feel like dying all over the place.

I agree with you though. I really don't know why those games are so ignored yet MD games are constantly talked about dispute have those games having the most broken gameplay of any Pokemon game, if you've ever been in a Monster House or have had a Pokemon use Perish Song you'll know exactly what I'm talking about when I say that the MD games have atrocious and simply broken game mechanics. It's pretty much just "muh feels" that make MD games at all relevant.

I really love the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series, but mostly for visuals, story, and music. The gameplay can get a bit repetitive (as with most roguelikes) and doesn't make up for it with at least a lot of difficulty, although I do appreciate the twist on the battle mechanics of main series Pokemon games. They just need more gameplay variety.

I don't care if they only cut like fucking goldeen from the game. This is a fucking pokemon game. Every single pokemon has at least one fan, who was likely disappointed if they weren't in the ~25% who were put in. I couldn't use Dragonite, Gallade, or many of the other pokemon I liked. Difficulty wise, my Haxorus' Dual Chop soloed the entire fucking game. The story was MARGINALLY better, which barely matters since I play Mystery Dungeon for only one reason, and that reason is to explore with my bros (>muh bros) in a different kind of game.

Fuck you buddy. The game isn't shit, it was a fun 15 hours. But it really gets boring fast.

This is why I actually preferred Gates, not that Gates was that good anyway. After /vp/ in general recommended Sky to me after I thought Gates as so-so, I was very much let down. The gameplay is pretty shoddy at its core in PMD as a whole, so having all the pokemon/lots of post-game dungeons barely even counted as a factor for me since I stopped right after the post-story events, which left only non-gameplay elements to decide between, in which Gates is better in areas like story and graphics. Soundtracks in both games are great though, probably the best in the pokemon franchise.

I guess it could come down to how much someone likes the core gameplay. If you like it, then you'll get more out of Sky as there's far more of it.
