She basically makes you feel bad for beating her, with that sad face and you preventing her from getting a mega ring. None of the previous rivals really made you feel bad for beating them, because they were either assholes or they took it like a champ. That's not how you should feel towards a rival.
I actually thought Shauna of all things was a better rival than her. At least she can't end up with a Flareon and has a fucking psuedo-legendary. Not going to lie, when she popped out her Goodra, I was legitimately surprised. I don't think a rival has ever had a psuedo before.
