If you're so obsessed with Pokemon that you need to transfer all year round, and you refuse to pay the small amount of money, you need to think of something to do with life.
The principle doesn't matter because the service (transferring Pokemon) isn't game-changing. You can battle just fine with what's available; if you need anything specific, trade with people here.
it's simply not required. How often do you transfer from 4th to 5th gen these days anyway? When was the last time you actively played 4th gen? The hype will go down within a few months and then you won't care.
