When I got back into pokemon a couple years ago after having not played it since red, I thought that a fighting/psychic type (my two favorites) would be pretty awesome.

was not disappointed, by far my favorite mon, and is always on my team.

Always been my favorite since Gen I. Was my first Pokemon I ever trained to lvl 100. In Gen III it really carried my team and I fell even more in love with it. But I think what really makes it my bro is growing up my imaginary friend was a white Ninetales and she really helped me cope with a lot of things.

Back in Blue, I was generally more concerned with capturing Pokemon than building up a team, so everything but my Charizard and Butterfree were basically cycled out pretty often as I leveled up and evolved various Pokemon. Sandslash though just seemed cool, and kept it around a lot.

Eventually transferred it to Gold, where it got more usage.

Ruby was where it really got a chance to shine, despite being massively under-leveled when I got to the Elite Four, it's Earthquake really helped get through some annoying battles.

Not really had a chance to use one the last three Gens, maybe the next game I get, I'll transfer a Sandshrew as soon as I can.

It's ability already enabled it to outclass Gallade, with a Mega to boot, it won't disappoint you.

Ninetales in a way even helped me figure out what I wanted to do for a career. Wanting to know everything about Ninetales lead me to find Japanese mythology which lead to a love of the culture and language. This spring I'll be back in school to get my teaching degree so I can be a Japanese language teacher.
Although I also feel a really strong attachment to Miltank because of my first Japanese teacher, she loved cows and had a few Miltank toys on her desk. R.I.P Sensei, I'm still chasing the dream.

No clear reason that can be summed up in one brief sentence as to "why".

More of a crossroad of reasons, really, as there is a ton of Pokemon that one can like over the rest with a valid personal reason for it.

At first there is a design and individual premise. Not many designs are immediately likeable for me, but this one was.

Taking his entire family at face value without arguing which one needs to be avoided definitely helped and provided an interesting background that compliments such Pokemon.

And there is also this little precious milestone - Gallade might as well be the first character that I manage to like despite having fallen out of favour. Previously it always went along the lines of "start liking something - your preferation has fallen on hard times - Abandon ship, make for the escape pods - skip a good couple of years - rediscover and feel regret". Let's hope that this cycle will be broken with this single pokemon.

Anyway, this is my bro. First off, he's one of my favorite typings (Fire being my absolute fav) but he's also the first Pokemon that I truly felt a connection to. Have you ever talked with your friends and asked the question "What animal would I be?" Well, nigh universally, people said panda, mainly because I'm normally a really relaxed cuddly guy and I have a bear mode body type. Also, my ex's pet name for me was Panda. When I saw this guy for the first time I got FUCKING excited and when I saw his pokedex definition I got even more excited. This sounds totally lame, but I was picked on a lot all through school. Literally elementary through graduation. I was suicidal and I am still slowly but surely overcoming some of the other things that I am still dealing with even years later. Out of all of that I feel like I developed a good sense of right and wrong and I stood up for others who were also picked on because nobody should have to deal with that. That normally ended up in fights because that's how we kind of did things where I am from. "Although it posses a violent temperament, it won't put up with bullying. It uses the leaf in its mouth to sense the movements of its enemies." My bro now and forever. Plus dem trick room sweeps.

I admit that entire years ago there was a time when I was standing in the doorstep between "keep perceiving Ralts family as a waifufag farm through what fetishists have done with it" and "rediscover it like it is actually presented, without drawing patterns over it".

I'm glad that I've made the move in the right direction and gave them a chance sooner that I'd have done otherwise. Entire line is fun and I hope to see it expanded in the future with that one more boost design.

I liked marine biology a lot as a kid, so I found the design simultaneously ridiculous and amazing. He also reminds me of Goufs, which happen to be my favorite mobile suit. Not to mention he was a huge carry in X, and his animations for Aura Sphere and Dragon Pulse are amazing.

Pinsir and Donphan are right up there, too.

Boy was I ashamed I didn't start with this beast. Just look at him, fucking badass.

I had one named Bropoleon with nice Ivs and modest nature, and I used him in Ou battles on Gen Iv, running agility/grass knot/surf/ice beam.
Ultimately I had to replace him because although strong and having tons of resistances, there were special sweepers much better than him, and he didn't fit with the rest of my team... And Bropoleon never left the pc box again. I felt a bit bad. He's still there, on my plat cartridge I havent touched in a while

I wish I could get a piplup in this gen, I'd definitely try one again, maybe a tank one, but I have to wait until that transfer thing comes out

Crobat is my all-time Pokebro. In my eyes, he has a fantastic design, and I like the way it contradicts his evolution method. Ruby and Sapphire was the most blind I've ever gone into a Pokemon game, so I didn't know anything about most of the Hoenn Dex.

I love how you never see Metagross's prevos until the final battle. I was like "Holy shit what is this angry spider robot thing." Then I get a shitty Beldum post-game, check where it is in the Pokedex, see there is only 1 slot between it and Metagross, and am all "Hell yes."

I love how it's a robot, yet has a natural feel to it with all the rough edges. All the other robotic Pokemon look artificial--and there's nothing wrong with that, but it makes Metagross feel very unique.

Oh and it was a beast in Gen 3 & 4.

Back in 2002 I was in 9th grade and some guys at my school were playing on their GBAs. They were playing the brand new Ruby and Sapphire games and were battling eachother. I was never into Pokemon in my elementary school, but when I saw this I needed it. The graphics were a big step up from Crystal (which I saw the same people playing last year) and then I saw what one of them was using. It was Swampert. The guy was destroying the other kid's mons and I was amazed. The next week, I picked up a cartage of Pokemon Ruby. I of course chose Mudkip and played through the entire game through with him. He was the first Pokemon I ever got to level 100, and he made me fall in love with the series. A few years later on my 17th birthday I got Pokemon Emerald. I chose Mudkip again and decided that I would never let it faint. I still kept that promise to this day. Later in Generation 4, I transferred both of my Swamperts to my Platinum, and then to Black 2. I learn of the great "Masuda Method" when I got Black 1and tryed it out with a Jpn Female Mudkip I got from GTS on Black 2. I got a shiny Mudkip after a whooping 48 full boxes of fails. Got that to level 100 and can wait to transfer to my X version when PB comes out.

This guy is truly amazing. Favorite starter; favorite mon.

This guy right here. I started competitive battling in gen 3 before emerald was released. Skarmbliss was everywhere. Magneton was widely used to shit on Skarmory, and then Dugtrio was used to shit on Magneton. I needed something that could take an EQ and just annihilate Dugtrio.

That's when I discovered Trace Porybro2. Defensive little shit with above average special attack and could recover. After using him specifically for Dugtrio, I soon learned other ways Trace was useful, and that P2 took a lot of punishment otherwise. Ever since then I've always included it no matter what.

Guy in my neighborhood had all the games up to RS and he let me restart his Gold version. The moment I get to that decisive part, I saw Chikorita and immediately remembered Ash's Bayleef from the anime so I picked him. Total bro through first 2 gyms. Had to give the games back to him after like 2 hours but bought my own copy of Silver that weekend and powered through the game with Meganium and has been my favorite Pokemon since.

One of the few first gen pokes that has stayed strong through every game. Carried my original shitty Blue team which had retarded stuff like Mr. Mime, Far'fetched, Dugtrio and Kangaskhan. I played with Mega Gengar through the game but he's still put to better use in his vanilla form. Plus I can use my other bro Kangaskhan once again. Scyther has been my favorite pokemon for as long as I can remember playing pokemon. I originally only got him to complete the pokedex but the move false swipe is what made him sky rocket into my favorite. It made catching pokemon so much easier and back then he seemed like the perfect pokemon catcher. Even though others can use the move and scizor is better competitively, I still think scyther is my favorite pokemon since I've caught most of the pokedex with it's help and I try to use him in any game he's available.

I've always been a fan of the Ghost type, always found the design of most Ghost types amazing and the movepool and power of most equally as good.

When playing through Pearl and discovering THIS nigga from the Hallowed Tower, he instantly became my favorite.

His typing, which most everyone knows, leaves no weaknesses (Then the Fairy Nation attacked and everything changed), and his move set and stat spread quickly made him a staple on my team.

Since Gen IV, Spiritomb has always been my baby. And when I went on GTS and found a Japanese female with Pokerus for a Yveltal, it wuz easy choice for me

Sneasel was my favourite since gen2. I loved the design, and the unique typing. Yes, it did suck, what with not having any means to back up its ice/dark STAB attacks. But I stuck with it, because I liked the design, and I managed to find a way to make it work with moves like Shadow Ball.

Then gen4 and the physical/special split happened. Not only did Sneasel become viable, it got a much needed evolution and I've never looked back. Weavile remains my favourite Pokemon to this day. I liked Sneasel, but I like Weavile so much more.

And I just bred one yesterday that was literally perfect. And I mean that. Literally. 31 in every stat across the board. I wasn't even trying to get 31 in Sp. Attack! I guess I just got lucky, and when it generated the egg, it rolled a 31. Fuck yeah!

It was mid 2007. DP was just starting to come out for most people, but I had been enjoying my Japanese Diamond. For the first time in a long time, I declared to complete the Pokedex... Except that never happened. But I did get some great Pokebros along the way.

One of those bros was this motherfucker, Togekiss. Without realizing, I picked up a Mild one with great IVs all around. Just to add to it, I had been level grinding it against Pokemon that give off Sp.Atk EVs. In other words, I accidentally EV trained it. And this bro I STILL use to this day - The very same Togekiss. It hasn't failed me yet, and I'm going to keep using this bad boy until they stop making Pokemon.

The first Pokemon I liked in B/W. He's really slow, to the point that I stopped using him for a while, but then I got him again in X.

Crobat is a fucking boss. Dat Bulk, Dat power, DAT SPEED...Infiltrator got buffed, Defog got buffed, which means Crobat got BUFFED. Still want a Mega Crobat.

It's really a give-take roll with him. He gains resistance to a couple of extra typings, but gains about 3 weaknesses in return. He's definitely a Sp. Attacking beast and after an agility he outspeeds near everything. Gets great coverage too. Love the guy.

Its a nice surprise when he 1HKOs their dragons, too.

Probably the most reliable Pokemon I've ever used, and unlike other Grass starters, it has a great movepool early on and the lack of STAB can be sorted out by Low Sweep. I wasn't even overlevelled by the end and I was using this guy to just trash Houndooms and stuff. He wasn't great against some of the gyms, but I could send him out in a normal battle and know that he's got it in control. I knew he'd be a bro, but still.

Also Gallade, thanks to being awesome looking then murdering everything in Platinum, and Clawitzer for that movepool.

Honestly, I have so many bros from each gen. Whether it's Chesnaught's reliability, Gallade's brutal power, Clawitzer's ridiculous movepool, Eelektross's not dying to one hit thing and ridiculous movepool (especially in BW2), or the Shiny Audino that saved my White Nuzlocke.

Shame my Zubat just died in my Platinum Nuzlocke. Wild Shellos Water Pulses are POWERFUL. I'm not very good at this...

Late to the bandwagon; Emerald was my first Pokegame. I later picked up Silver at a slightly older age, right about the same time my parents started pulling the plugs on marriage. To say I was a shut-in was an understatement. I had little friends on my block(s), as it was a gated community/barren street, so I relied on my GameBoy. Thus began my age of gaming that hasn't ended. Pokemon following you around in Silver was amazing and interactivity was nice, especially once they finally "love" you. (My friend now makes gay jokes.)

Silver became my favorite over Emerald and eventually I stopped restarting so I could take time to train my Typhlosion to lvl. 100. He was named Mike.
I remember many nights spent up when I shouldn't have been, playing Silver quietly.

When SoulSilver happened, I was ecstatic. Regardless of whether we win or lose, this guy was the best. I recently replayed and attempted to sweep the Elite 4/Champion with only my starter, who I had exclusively trained on purpose as a challenge. And challenge it was; revives and meat shields galore. We barely made it, and I used Lugia (who I had just caught) a few times, but otherwise managed to fit my bro into the first slot so he was next to me in the Hall of Fame card.

I always liked Nidorino, but never actually used one until this gen. I've found him to work really well when Scolipede passes some speed boosts onto him; after that, he outspeeds nearly everything I come against while hitting like a truck.
