Sometimes it depends on the Pokémon.

Mons like Hitmontop or Skarmory look ridiculous in XY, but look pretty damn cool in the Stadium games.

I dont like most of XY's animations because Gen5's animations were moving much more than XY. For example, Salamence.

All it does is float. It sucks.

I give Nintendo/GF credit for not recycling the same models and animations they've been using since Stadium, but the death anmations are too short. Also, a few animations are still wonky (ex. Blastoise shooting beams from his mouth).

All in all, it's an improvement by way of not being rehash.

If Nintendo wants to sell some Wii U's, they will make a battle sim with 1080p Pokemon models and gamepad features such as setting up secret battle settings and managing tournaments.
Too bad there's no rear camera on the Wii U, because AR stadium scans would be nice.

Colosseum and XD had lively Pokemon animations, especially if you compare Kangaskhan from XD to XY. Also the attack animations were longer in console games and more unique. Models themselves (in console games) were not as accurate as they could have been, I really like XY's models (fire and smoke effects were kinda poor though).

But imo, the main reason they went with those shitty flying animations on salamence and skarmory is because of sky battles. Notice how you can't use Pidgey and Fletching in the battles? Because they stand on solid ground. They did not want to animate 2 different animations so they just went with the flying one even though they could have had a ground animation and a flying one.

fuck this rpg shit, I get enough of that in the actual mainline games. I just want to be able to sit down with a friend, pick a team of Diglet, Mewtwo, Pinsir, Diglet, Blazekin, and Nuzleaf if I want to, while he picks similar choices.

it's really goddamn stupid to force you to use an in-game team, because FUCK I just spent 100 hours with these niggers sometimes I just want to run an all-ditto team or something.

I would like them removed, so that we could get non-retarded neutral animations for some Pokemon back.

it's not even a question of "they should've spent time working on other things" it's that they put something in the game that provides NO entertainment or value, yet makes other aspects of the game worse.

Say what you will about X and Y's animations, but anything's better than Gen V's. Singling out the worst X and Y animation out of 700 something doesn't prove much when the vast majority of Black and White's animations amounted to a sprite bobbing or swaying.

The flying animations arent there JUST because of sky battles. There are also moves that effect Pokemon based on whether or not theyre touching the ground.

Based on how few sky battles there are, it seems like they just put it because because they had all those Pokemon with flying animations.

It's retarded because most of those pokemon HAVE grounded models/animations for Amie. The issue here is that they weren't implemented outside of that, so mons like Xatu and Eelektross look awkward all the time.

Agreed on Xatu. It really should just be standing. But if it has to fly, I think it works better without flapping its wings. It just shouldn't be flying period.

Salamence and Skarmory just look dumb though.

Those examples also cannot participate in sky battles likely because they have no flying animation even though we all know they can fly.

You're probably ignoring the examples and trying to say Salamence was given a flying animation because of moves like those but explain this. Why is fletching unaffected by misty terrain even though it's animation shows it grounded?

Nah, I liked Stadium's animations better. The idle animation was based, that beak snapping and quick turns of the head were fantastic.

Overall, XY had more detailed idle movements but the ones in Stadium were much more unique, dynamic, and fun.

between this, the low amount of new Pokemon, and the way they had to break up Luminessa town into segments, makes me think Gamefreak can't into code optimization.

And don't get me started on the ridiculous amount of attacks that boil down to "hops up and down a couple times".

Sigh... maybe Z or XY2 or whatever they call the next version will have improved animations. But let's be serious, it probably won't.

Exactly. Would it have been so hard to just modify the grounded amie animation for attacks and other movements needed for ground battle? I mean shit like Spearow does not get hit by earthquake either way but if they wanted to go the full mile they could have just have certain pokes take off when ground terrain or shit like earthquake are used.

There's not even a lot of pokes that would benefit from this only the retarded looking ones while flying like Xatu, Salamence, Skarmory etc.

I own this game, and i can tell you that it is flawless, music is awesome, the graphics are amazing, you can zoom in all the models in-game and even with the camera doing a close-up you gonna be amazed. 3D runs smooth too, it's a pleasure too see that the 3ds i capable of some acceptable graphics (because almost everything until now looks like psp games or even worst).

No, it doesn't. I played the entire game and didn't notice any drop in the frame rate, and, pokemon is way simple than RE and struggles to keep the frame rate.
