For example, Azumarill comfortably balks your STAB, can wear you down with waterfall and finish you with aqua jet.
Another example of a great check is defensive Tyranitar which can comfortably absorb Charizard's attacks unless it carries focus blast. Physical Charizard is outclassed and should switch since T-Tar is going to set up rocks.
Jolly means your zard isn't complete chickenshit without a boost. It means you can come in on a pokemon that can kill you, outspeed it and get the KO. Yes, setup makes zard good, it makes anything good, but you won't always be in a position to get it off.
