Looking better. Could you try making the wings more massive? Either that, or make the wings literal bird-wings. Having a massive-bulky birdwing would be a nice change from the special attacking butterflies.

I have returned and have refined the fox 'rival' to the cutter rabbit.

While most people would instantly think fences, I instead based it off the thing people used to successfully try and rid of the rabbits - the Myxoma virus used in bait. Not really, a much lighter concept stringing from it though. How about this:

The fox mon 'plants' itself into the ground with it's hind facing the surface, the tail resembles a bush/shrub with flowers resembling flowering vegetables (makes for good camouflage for the fox mon as well as acting like bait) and attracts the cutter rabbits. When the rabbit(s) approaches to eat/cut it, the fox jumps out and using it's agile limbs, promptly chases after the rabbit(s), when it catches up to it/them, it injects poison into the rabbit through its fangs and thorns/pricks/stingers/sharp bits on its joints. But you're probably thinking "Foxy, poison has no effect against steel (one of the most logical choices for a cutter rabbit with head/tail shears/scissors) ,this is stupid." That's where the fox's signiture ability will come in - an ability that allows it to bypass steel type's immunity to poison type attacks. Similar to the virus, it is able to break through the rabbit's resistances. Likewise, the fox mon would/could be part poison? The fox mon could be used by humans to rid of the cutter rabbit pests who keep cutting through fences and eating crops (similar to how the virus was put in bait to rid of rabbits eating crops after the fences failed). Suggested typings by people have been Normal/Fighting (to mirror the rabbit if Normal/Steel), just Fighting or Fighting/Poison (because while the rabbit is 'natural', the fox was specifically intoduced/bred to hunt down the rabbit. Fighting type always felt like an artificial type based on behaviour, which is one of the key things breeding manipulates)(Poison being based on the virus). Not grass as the plant elements are more of a camouflage gimmick. Thoughts?

Okay so, I really like this dragon/psychic design. It's probably my fav out of the Australian pokedex. However, I must ask, where does that purple ball thing on his tail go?

That seemed to be a large focus of his design and one of the more characterizing and striking features of the pokemon in his 1st and second evo. It was kind of like lickitung's tongue or the fact that voltorb is a pokeball. I mean, the first evolution is literally hugging the purple ball like his life depends on it- as if it's a source of psychic energy for the 'mon. And then in the final evo the purple ball is gone, unless that tiny dot on his forehead represents what the pokemon was once defending with his life in its first evo.

I was short on time for the last few days but
I am going to redraw these and alter the designs slightly so it becomes more apparent.
The Ball becomes an eye in the last stage.

Right. So based on visual feedback (my favorite kind of feedback, makes everything so much simpler!) I've redone the original art. I've done two color schemes. One brown/orange and the other brown/grey. Which is better? Who can it be improved further?

The best advice I can give is to re-do the shrub tail to make it more detailed, unique, and pretty/interesting looking. It's probably the most unique concept about your pokemon and needs to be done well.

Seeing the changes (the underbelly changed to the colour of the back legs) I think that yellow is probably best (even though I suggested grey).

Maybe you can do what >>16526494 said and make grey the shiny version. I do like the overall design as you have it (minus the simpsons face, but I get it's just a good sketch).

Everyone contributes designs here, and we discuss them and tear them apart and improve them, and then agree what looks good and what doesn't.

Why not throw some sketches onto a page and post it to see if people are interested?

All right. Based on the general opinion. a >b. B has become the shiny with a gold/reddish brown/grey color scheme based of a golden harvest - what is hopefully to be achieved if the cutter rabbits are stopped in Nullos . Also, changed the head to look less simpson.

I'll probably re-do the shrub tail to make it look more unique but what's there ow is all I've got at the moment (perhaps we could do a thing where people could redesign the tail similarly to how to new color scheme and design choices were decided)

Eucalypkid [Koala Pokemon]

Description: Small koala pokemon with gray fur and lighter gray underbelly that always has a eucalyptus twig in its hands. Position is seated, with paws cutely hugging a eucalyptus branch and nibbling on a leaf.

evolves into Eucalyptyke at lv 16

Decription: Four foot tall koala with same color scheme, but with fluffier ears (this is pokemon don't question it). He now holds the branch like a sword in one paw.

Description: 6.5 foot tall koala that carries massive koala branch on its shoulders

Got many spikes with no reason and its colour scheme is a bit all over the place. Try simpler and more harmonious shapes than the jagged beak, the spikes, the eye lash tattoos and stuff really clash and is too much.

Rampardos literally rams itself into its targets. The animal it's based on is crowned with a lot of spikes on its head so more spikes on its body is just repetition of a pattern.

I kind of wanted the color scheme to clash. I want to make the mon itself very pale and dull, so that the opal really pops. And about the eyelash spots, it's because many interpretations of it give it spots, but I didn't wanna speckle them all over, so I just gave it the back stripe and the eyelash marks.

Difference is, it's not nearly as over done. It doesn't even have a very unique design. The Biliby we have now looks different from a lot I've seen. Same with fire lions, ringed octopus, thorny devils (even vulpix and fennekin look nothing alike.).

Designs don't have to be "good" they need to appeal to a target audience, that you personally might not be, or fit in the boundary of a theme.

Why not have a regular koala pokemon and have it split evolve to another grass/regular koala and the other the dark dropbear koala.
You can have it play with your theme of dreams which seems like an overarching theme for this region. The regular nice koala likes
to eat on eucalyptus leaves, get "high", and have pleasant dreams, the evil dropbear is a result of nightmares.
Imo the shared evolution seems gimmicky, and just there because you want to be "unique".

I just came up with that in five seconds, but the point I'm trying to make is that a split prevo is a cool idea but only if there's a reason for it. If you're doing it just because... then it feels less unique and more gimmicky. Especially since the dropbear is cool enough for a stand-alone evo. line.

I think these are all pretty cool ideas. The shedinja fish makes a lot of sense given the idea behind the pre-evo.

One thing that sort of seemed weird to me reading your post, though, is that the whale doesn't really show much evidence of evolving from five or six different fish. It's just like one big fish. Like, it went from being multiple living entities to only one big living entity.

You know how magneton has three magnemites stuck together. Imagine if it evolved into magnezone and magnezone was only one big magnemite, without the little magnemites attached. Wouldn't that be kind of lame. Idk... I just feel as though the whale should have some kind of evidence that it came from five different fish, like by giving it extra eyes- but I may be alone on this.

There was an option further back that had remains of the fish around in the evo. But even there people weren't sure if they should go the morphed Wheezing way or the other.
Also the beer inspiration is neat, but fish getting trapped in plastic in a pack isn't unheard of, so it keeps a realistic inspiration despite having an amusing one as well.

Liteleo is not uninspired or underdesigned. It took its source animal as an inspiration to make a separate creature. If I compared a lion cub to Liteleo, they are distinctly different.

It doesn't look like GF dropped the source animal into a generic cartoon show and added some fiery fur to it. The cheetah does. It has no personality and the source is almost exactly like the design. Take it as inspiration, not as a base.

I thought Bunnelby was going to be included anyway. From what I've gathered in previous threads. The supposed "story" based on the lore for Nullos is something like:

Cutter rabbits have evolved and adapted from European Bunnelbies that came to Nullos and savaged the crops long ago. A massive fence was put around all of Nullos to prevent this and for a while, it worked. The Bunnelbies eventually overcame the fences by adapting their shovel ears to cutters through environmental characteristic changes (?). The cutter rabbits then end up once again savaging the crops. Humans discover a fox mon or alter an existing fox mon somehow and use them to combat the cutter bunnies.

Dream theme doesn't fit the dropbear, and having a split evolution is too damn cliche. Having a cross evolution is an interesting take on the idea. Take your two koalas and merge them for an evolution somehow

No, it's not. Wurmple is not a merged evolution of beautifly and cascoon. Kirla is not a merged evolution of gardevoir and gallade. The only merged evolution was have is mantine. We also have slowbro/slowing as story-merges.

On the other hand, if I google cartoon cheetah, you are going to find things that look almost exactly like it. Or even better, go on Deviantart and look for it.

And even worse, it's not integrated into the design. At least Rapidash took elements a horse has (i.e. mane) and turned it into fire. Here, we add spiky fur and Raichu's tail and stick it on a cheetah. It's like dressing something up versus making an actual creature.

They look decent but they don't seem very "fence". It kinda just looks like a fox with some spiky bits here and there (the bottom right one looks like it's got fire coming out its shoulders while the upper right one seems more rock fox than fence.)

Manectric is an excellent example. Took inspiration from a dog but made the electricity a part of his design and character. Raichu, another. The majority of pokemon are like that; precious few are like Rapidash.

Rapidash looks like its real counterpart while still having stylization and personality. The fire is integrated into the design (i.e. real bits of the horse) and doesn't look stuck on. And, do you seriously want to use it as an example; that shit was done mainly through stylization, and since I don't think anyone here is Sugimori it's safe to say that it's extremely unlikely that anyone here will be able to match it.

Fire electric cheetah has the generic eyes while sticking on electric boots and lolspikyfire mane, as well as stealing Raichu's tail. The face has not been changed at all; it is the staple of generic cartoon OC donut steal cheetah.

Seeing how >>16530515 is right, a foxhound is in fact a large hunting dog (which the original design took aspects from both dog and fox), I thought I'd experiment and give my bait virus foxhound more dog-ish ears as opposed to more pointy fox based. Both are displayed but which looks better?

If you want to improve your shit cheetah, those are the issues with it.

a) It takes a real cheetah drawn by a day-old cartoonist and sticks things on it (and steals features from other pokemon); incorporates nothing into the actual design as a whole
b) No personality; eyes and face are incredibly generic, and the cheetah is used as a literal base and not as inspiration
c) You cannot rely on style, because let's be honest, nothing in this thread has been even close to an official pokemon's style

Well i associated Fence with Steel Type, together with barbed wire
The "rocks" where suppsed to hint to fences a bit, connected standing out objects and stuff
The armorish parts where suppsed to hint to the barbared wire
The one one on the left was supposed to be a more agile , right one bulky and the one on top a mix i guess

I tried to add more wodden plank-ish elements now, if its not fence enough i will just redo and stick with a real fence

I see his point though, a design that looks like an animal with stuff on it to indicate typing doesn't seem good enough to me. GF pulls it off sometimes, but I'm not sure it will look authentic enough if we try it. I suggest going with a blaze-looking fur coat that has flame-like sparks coming from it and black blotches indicating both burnt material and the cheetahs spots.
The racing car tracks is an interesting idea too.

Thanks. I'd say Phanphy and Donphan are different as they more curl up into a wheel shape rather than already being wheel shape to begin with (if that makes sense, no good with wording). I don't know. The flames are there for the "Burnin' rubber" aspect with an iconic flaming wheel thing going on to emphasize speed (pretty lame, I know) (signature move similar to flame wheel?). I dunno, I just wanted to try/see something that wasn't just "cheetah with flames and spikes put on for no other based reason." like I've seen time and time again.

Yeah, makes sense. Perhaps it could have enflammable spots that only burn when it reaches a certain speed? So there's no evidence of the fire typing if it's stationary, but as soon as it starts running, the body beginns to burn? Something like that?

Experimenting with color schemes (one's left blank so anyone could fill in the colors appropriately/better). I rather like the idea of it not being completely obvious what the typing is. It could have an ability where, when it's health reaches 50% or lower, it's speed stat raised slightly higher (and it changes to a form where fire is coming out the "tire/wheel"). It's a nice idea of having the cheetah only show its flames when reaching a certain speed - I like it.
