kyogre, groudon, palkia, dialga, arceus, reshiram, yveltal, zekrom, and a bunch of other ubers are all hit with 120 BP low kick. That's a lot better than close combat. MEwtwo X has the best fighting STAB move for ubers. Drain punch is probably the second best, and again, it has it.

I don't think this board understand what brand recognition or market penetration means.

They're trying to attract lapsed fans and new fans to these games. Lapsed fans remember the gen I pokemon they liked (brand recognition). New fans have positive feelings for old pokemon because they've been around the longest and even people who never played pokemon recognize them (market penetration).

It's really fucking easy to understand GF's rationale. They're not thinking from a fan perspective, they're thinking from a marketing perspective as a giant corporation trying to get people to buy the 3DS and video games.

Sometimes it's frustrating how shortsighted the board seems to be. I've always wanted to have a thread about how GH interpreted 'murca in B/W/B2/W2, but pokefans don't seem to be programmed to think that way.

Unova didn't seem obviously American to me. Like, if they never said it was based off of America, I never would have suspected.

But perhaps it's just because I'm American that I don't get the subtle things here and there. The biggest hint was that Unova is a melting pot of people and cultures, and America is often described that way.

Meanwhile, it's incredibly obvious Kalos is based on France. People using french phrases and words all the time, and an eifel tower right there in the big city.

Also, Mewtwo X looks pretty rad. Why does it need a purpose? What's the purpose of any of the fucking pokemon?

I'm really glad I don't care about competitive bullshit.

I see Mewtwo X, and I'm like "He looks rad, I want that". I picked Chespin as my starter because Chesnaught looked the coolest, and I got Charmander because MegaZard X looks fucking radical.

Although, every new generation, the desire to get into all that nonsense grows more and more. I just want to use pokemon that I like.

And I think this is where they are failing. They don't really NEED more consumers to the franchise. This is acceptable if they actually needed to make their fanbase grow, but this is not the actual case (although we could argue they were asked by Nintendo to make it so many people could buy it, to increase 3Ds sales because the Wii U is failing). What they need is to keep the fanbase and make good games with good stories, good mechanics and memorable regions. I'm not saying gen 6 was bad, I'm just saying they could improve some few things (I welcome the 3D transition, but some things are a bit lackluster).

All seriousness, though, it's what I expected. Gen 5 was at the end of a console's life, when they had a good understanding of how everything worked and could really work on refining and expanding certain aspects and basically perfecting the formula. Gen 6 was introduced on a new console, so there's going to be a quality drop in a lot of areas. Once we get our remakes and the next gen I'll expect that they'll have a good enough understanding to create something amazing again.

I guess the gen one pandering was partly because of the Wii U and because they want to reintroduce the series to a bunch of old fans that sorta dropped it. Like saying "Hey, remember me? We're back and updated, come and give us a try again!" And really it isn't terribly detrimental to the games, although it could have been better.

The other reason this was genwun pandering, I believe, was because it's something well known, that even they know well. So they tried to go with known things. Or maybe they were afraid to drop the ball with the transition to 3D and decided to have a backup plan with the pandering.

It's better than Mewtwo Y though. With Pokebank is can get Drain Punch and it's typing it arguably better than pure Psychic. This thing was built for good mixed sets.

Or it's supposed to be a bridge for everyone; not just genwunners, but also veteran players to take a return to the roots of the series. I mean, we're getting up there with the amount of pokemon. I just think it would have been much nicer if it were distributed a bit more equally (at least one for all the starters, come on GF).
