/VP/ Gym Leader Challenge!
This is a tournament over what will be the Christmas Holiday for most folks on /vp/. It will start on December 20, and rounds will occur every other day, until it has completed.
The rules are simple.
1. You have a team of 6 pokemon, but the actual battle is 3v3. Finals will be 4v4.
2. Pokemon on your team must all share a chosen type. Your type will be made public.
3. Flat rules. So no special pokemon
4. Matches are best out of 3 battles. Substitutions are limited to your team of 6, but are allowed.
5. Be as assholish and dastardly as you want to be. There are no bans on any pokemon or moves, aside from the legendaries, as per flat rules.
6. Disconnects will count as draws, unless the players decide to redo that particular battle. Having a record of repeated disconnects may result in a disqualification.
7. Unplayed rounds count as a loss. More rules on this forthcoming
8. Mons obtainable in gen 6 only. This shouldn't actually be an issue though, as everyone should have their teams assembled before pokebank is up and running.
9. NO SIMULATORS! Let's do this all through the 3DS and then post up the battle videos for everyone to watch!
10. There are no prizes. If you hack to predict moves, all you're doing is cheating yourself out of any sort of real victory here. This is for fun.
Eliminations work as follows:
It is a double elimination tournament. However, the last trainer of a particular type standing has earned their pass to the finals.
The finals will consist of the best trainer of each type(This means that undesirable types may have an advantage in getting to the finals at the very least, so consider this wisely).
Rules on more specific schedule situations will come later. For now, I'd like to get people registered. I will be sending out emails or updating threads in the meantime.
Preliminary registration form is HERE:

So, what about Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres and Zygarde, OP? Are they acceptable? I wouldn't consider them uber at all.

>>16546977 I'm just assuming that Mewtwo, Xerneas and Yveltal are the banned ones. For good reason.
That actually leads me to another question for OP: Would a Pokemon, such as Ampharos, be acceptable for a mono-dragon team, since it becomes dragon-type when it Mega evolves.

I know that you've probably already finalized with the tournament rules, but just throwing this out as an idea... Instead of going with just Gym Leader monotype, would it be more interesting to have both type- and theme-monotype? Like for example, normally Bug-types have a really crippling weakness to rock, but having something like a Flygon or a Gliscor on would help mitigate that. Or a pure-Dragon team would see some real hurt when fighting fairies, but having a Charizard would take out a bit of the sting. Froslass on Fairy teams to add a bit of coverage, Malamar on Water teams for the surprise factor. That sort of thing. Of course, things are plenty interesting enough as they are, what with a tournament already. But just food for thought.

>>16567221 Not OP, but I think it helps give the underdog a chance in the case of a bad type-matchup. If you only have one pokemon that can beat a certain type, you'll have one pokemon good against three, as opposed to only one v. six.
Anonymous
>>16567252 See I feel the opposite.
Again in my argument for 6v6 I feel that 3v3 would be run by sweepers just like the battlespot is ingame. with a 6v6 you can have options for a physical defender and special defender, a special attacker and a physical attacker and such and such like that. It brings more balance to teams that can support each other.

>>16567340 Let's analyse the 3v3 meta after we've had a successful competition. I understand that 3v3 singles is not a perfect format (actually, I think it's pretty shitty) but changing it is something only the guy who organised it can do.
Anonymous
>>16567340 Fair enough. It just seems to me like the advantage a super-effective team would have on its opponent would be considerably harder for the weaker team to overcome in 6v6 as opposed to 3v3. A Water team with a Quagsire or Gastrodon in a 6v6 against Electric would still be taken down relatively easily because the counter could be worn down over time, as opposed to the 3v3 where it can do significant damage before going down. Also, walls and tanks could still have their place in 3v3 against a type they themselves are SE against and/or resistant to.
In general I prefer 6v6 too, but in a type-based tourney like this, 3v3 evens the field somewhat, in my opinion.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>16567439 I guess you have a point. But it could be the same in 3v3 even with most counters/checks to weakness. For electric teams the counter for ground would be levitate rotom like wash or heat ect. but there's also dual types to help resist the weakness.
