Yes, because it underlines how stupid your logic is. Gen 2 didn't have a pikaclone, just like Gen I didn't have one. Gen I had the original Pikachu and grown-up Pikachu. Gen 2 had baby Pikachu.

People think it was? Pichu is obviously Johto's Pikaclone. Yes, it's different in that it's related to Pikachu, but I've always thought that being Electric-type is sort of critical to the Pikaclone concept. Marill just isn't part of it.

I've been wrong too long to admit it now. The real mistake is that all the pikaclones have been electric instead of changing types like it was originally intended.

Johto introduced both a Pikaclone AND a Pikachu pre-evo. Marill is just out of place when grouped with all the other clones, so they use Pichu.

Ignoring the fanmade Pikablue rumors, how is Marill anymore of a clone of Pikachu then something like, say, Skitty? If anything, Skitty is more similar to Pikachu, since it evolves via stone and is found incredibly early in the game but at a low encounter rate.

I was going off the the "recycle the same concept" idea, which Marill really doesn't do appearance-wise compared to the other "Pika-clones," so I assumed he meant marketing/role-wise.

But I agree that there was no straight-up Pikachu rip-off in gen II if you disregard Pichu as just an addition to the line (since plenty of other Pokemon got similar babies that gen for popularity purposes).

The thing is, Pichu isn't a pikaclone. It's a baby Pikachu. A clone is 1) a fan term and 2) means that they're recycling old ideas in unrelated pokemon. Pichu is related, ergo not a clone. Marill isn't a pikaclone either.

It makes sense. Four of the pika clones were just made to go along with a specific concept (baby pokemon in gen 2, double battles in gen 3, and fairy type in gen 6, I have no idea what happened in gens 4 and 5). Not only does marill not fit in with the idea, but it's also not an electric type.
