Not here, first shiny I ever had was Ho-Oh in Gold.
A friend of mine told me I needed to go to the top of the tower to catch the pokémon that was in the box. I eventually reached it and battled Ho-Oh. I remember vividly that when I found it it had a sparkling effect all over it, but I thought to myself that that was because it was a legendary and stuff, so I just caught it normally and moved on.

When I learned abou shinies, on DPPt era, I remembered my Ho.Oh so I went to check it out. Unfortunately, the save file was gone because the battery went dry.
