Yup. Designated a value at the start of each new game. You wont know if theyre shiny or not until you beat the E4 and encounter them. If theyre not shiny, you have to start a new game all over and try again. Hence my frustration

I caught it, but, it was easily my most bittersweet Pokemon experience.

Other than that, on a LeafGreen run, I ran into a shiny Persian on the Sevii Islands. As I was about to catch it, I thought "Hey, I just saved, shiny Persian doesn't really look too different, since I'm primed for one, maybe I'll run into a more interesting shiny if I soft-reset."

Obviously I did not understand the way shinies are encountered. And I never saw a shiny Persian again.

Funny how many of us encounter shinies in hordes only for them to burn themselves on our Flame Body Talonflames. I found a shiny Skorupi in a horde a few weeks ago and the same exact thing happened, except I was lucky enough to capture it before it burned to death.

I am deliberately avoiding that route in case it happens. If I can't catch one without Zangoose gangbanging it to death, I may have to get one via trade.

So far, every shiny I encountered, I caught. No lost ones so far. Recently found a shiny timid Oddish in X.

I will never be this lucky again. I also got the Pokerus again (twice) through Wonder Trade, but it's not the same as randomly discovering I've got it after some wild battle.

As for lost shiny stories, I saw a shiny Nidoran F in Crystal many years ago, but I didn't have many Pokeballs and I was severelly overlevelled so I couldn't whittle it down.

Last week, my friend who is new to the series, decided it was be easy to breed a shiny if he used a foreign breeding partner, and wouldn't you know, within 10 eggs he had it. My other friend got Y when I got X, and one of the first Pokemon he ran into was a shiny Ledyba, then the next day some kid randomly traded him another shiny
