Virtually none of these look like Pokemon at all. Lots of them are somewhat cool-looking, but they still don't look like Pokemon. The best one in the whole dex right now is the Frostmite/Sledback line, they are passable.

The test currently has almost 100 questions on it. And due to limitations, the site I'm using for the polls only allows me to process 2500 answers before I have to start shelling out 200 bucks to run the survey. That means less than 30 people can complete the survey in its current state.
Thus, I'm considering letting the Mega Poll stay idle for the time being. Instead, I think we should nominate a niche to work on in each thread, and dedicate that thread to digging up old ideas and posting or developing new ones for that niche. At the end of the thread, I take a poll to get an idea of which ideas for the niche are the most genuinely popular.

It's possible to have a niche which just so happens to be filled by the same Pokemon in most generations. However, at least in some cases, it would be possible to use recycled GF mons in these areas (especially since previous polling has indicated that at least some GF mons would be acceptable to most people).

Not that dex template specifically. Obviously, that one needs to be reworked, at least to a degree. But using a textual dex template in the OP instead of a pictorial dex would not only stop promoting certain designs as "official" when they're not, but would also give people in the thread ideas as to what kinds of mons actually need to be worked on.

Take any generic looking Pokemon, say, a regional rodent looking 'mon. First evo is simply that mon, nothing special about it, HOWEVER its dex entries mention something about it not having a very high survival rate. Give it normal typing.
Split evo. One evolution is Normal/Fighting, and it is basically the original Pokemon who has overcome the odds and become a huge, awesome fighter.
The other evo is Normal/Ghost. The original mon is slumped over or has "empty" eyes (basically make it look dead, but not really edgy or anything like that). The catch is that the Pokemon has a large, shadowy, ferocious-looking silhouette of its former self hovering above this "dead" body.

I'd say some might be overly harsh on it because it doesn't really mimic Sugimori's style too well, but on it's own it's pretty good. Though, Fakemon should try to get Sugimori's style down at least to some extent, that's often the thing Fakemon miss and why they can be stated as "not a Pokemon".

I think something with coral would be great, but it should be different from Oshawott's one is a shell and one is coral but the blade aspect might make it too close. On the other hand bovines are bulky, and there's an opportunity to tie it in with something like the Great Barrier Reef. (Coral shield, Coral armor maybe?)
I know pigs are different from a water buffalo, but it is a tetrapod and a mammal, you should look at Tepig as an example. Both of your first stages had very iffy legs. The eyes are decent on both in my opinion but you should try experimenting with them a little.

Seriously, though, we've just been lurching from shitstorm to shitstorm. The Devil Trio's been abandoned, but the Thorny Devil has been retained, and most people seem to like it as the fire starter (the main dispute appears to be over appearance).
People are having trouble with the water starter, since there aren't that many options and the options that are around don't seem to be liked in their current forms. The grass starter debate hasn't even really started yet at this point, though some people think a Bushbaby or Sugarglider-based mon may work.
Tasleaf, the Grass Devil Starter, was transformed into Tastorm, an Electric type which seems to have a bit of popularity, but this is difficult to confirm.
Meanwhile, I've been doing surveys, and making a shit-ton of maps. You can look at the maps here:

And the back stuff is meant to be coral, I just simplified it because it's stage one. All the other designs at the moment are just using squares to imply coral.

As for shape, plenty of options, look at all the shit in that picture. Give it a coral afro for all I care, just if you're going coral, GO coral. So maybe google some different corals see if there are any that are piss easy to draw. Try the orange or white one in pic related.

>>16608905 Thanks. I actually did up a modified grass tile for the desert grass by running the standard grass tile through a colourblind filter and giving it a sand background. Far from suitable as actual desert grass, but it makes a workable stopgap.
Any suggestions as to how I could improve the layout of the route? If not, I think I might start work on making it look nicer and fining up the boundaries between the different kinds of ground-tile.
