Should I worry about IVs?

If all I want to do is go through battle maison and maybe battle online a bit, should I be super anal about wanting perfect IVs?

Breeding for perfect IVs seems like it would take an eternity. Not to mention the fact you need Dittos with every fucking nature. And that you need a Ditto safari, which there seem to be very few of them.

Also, is there a team building guide somewhere out there? I don't want to spend a million hours getting my shitty team together only to find out it's really shitty.

afaik the battle maison uses pokemon with good IVs so you might get a little trouble there.

Use showdown to test teams before breeding them.

Max them out with Pokegen on the BW side. Wait for the bank and then transfer everything into Kalos. That's what I'm doing at least in regards to IV's. I hate that system with a passion and I'd rather just sidestep it entirely.

Well that sucks.

And I really don't know the first thing about building a team. I pretty much just grab a few pokemon that are kinda strong and see how far I can get with them.

Its not super important but you will notice a difference if your fighting stuff with shit IVs against all 31's

If you have Pokemon with high 20's in important stats your fine as more than likely your not going to face perfect 31's too often

Insider info, the new bank is pretty much Pokecheck 2.0. The only people who will get by are the real hackers who hex edit their Pokemon to make them completely passable and I mean flawless.

IV breeding is hardly a pain in the ass, it'll take you a day at the most for even a 6IV mon. Granted, I'm an MMer so I'm used to endless breeding day-in and day-out.

WT is also your best friend, I'd say about half of every box I WT out consists of IV'd mons. I never even needed to farm Dittos since I've gotten so many via WT.

Huh.

So you don't need an army of Dittos then?

And I've used wonder trade a bit and managed to get a 5IV adamant scyther and gible. I just wish I could tell if they were legit.

Anything right now is legit. As far as I know, you can't edit saves of X and Y and you can't transfer from older games.

Oh. I was under the assumption that all hatched pokemon came in a normal pokeball, so I got rid of all the ones that were in ultra balls and shit.

You don't really need them if you don't really care, it doesn't take an eternity though and I almost never use dittos while breeding, though that's mainly because I bred like a half dozen synchro ralts with the relevant natures and use those instead. Still it only takes a few hours to get your 5IV mon, less if you already have parents in the egg group you want.

you only really need a ditto for genderless or for pokemon who don't have a male/female form

Okay, so

The method I read about was basically catching Dittos in the friend safari, since they're guaranteed to have three max IVs. Then using them as the parents, and eventually you get the pokemon you want.

Cutting out that part, how exactly do you get max IVs through breeding? If you have two parents with average IVs, won't their offspring have the same IVs?

Sorry, I've literally never bred pokemon, so I'm not 100% sure how this shit works.

since FS guarantee the pokemon will have 2-3 perfect IVs
WT on the other hand is a dumping ground for breeding leftovers and breeder charity so you may end up with a couple pokemon with 4-5 perfect IVs to start off with

destiny knot passes random IVs from both parents
you can't breed ditto to get perfect IVs
therefore breeding with a ditto means you won't get more that 3 perfect IVs if you're lucky

Now that we're on the subject.
I started breeding for IVs just a couple of days ago, but I'm not exactly sure if I'm doing it right.
How do you know which IVs are important for a Pokemon, say if you can't get a perfect one with 6 IV and have to settle for 5 or 4?
The same with EVs. How do I know which stats i should put them into?

also special sweepers like Alakazam don't really need perfect IVs is attack

Just look at the base stats. You're likely not going to be using both physical and special attacks, so pick one to roll with.
Of course, there are special cases like Nidoking; who has lower special attack compared to physical, but has a great special movepool to go along with Sheer Force.

tl;dr: just do some research

I always use Ditto at the first stages of breeding, to get right natures. For that I use my 2 IV safari Dittos.
Then I use several 3 IV safari Dittos to get a male with 4 IVs, which I use to get a female with 4 IVs. Then I use a 4 IV male and 4 IV female to get a 5 IV. I can use a not perfet 5 IV to get a penta perfect.
Of course I always use Everstone and Destiny Knot.
It takes like a day or so. If you're lucky enough to have a 4, 5 or 6 IV Ditto you'll get perfect pokémon in a few hours.
