I’m thinking of getting a 3DS pretty soon (within the week) since the last Pokémon game I played was Pearl, which I recently picked up again and remembered how much fun it is. Since everyone is saying good things about Gen VI, I figured I’d get a 3DS and either X or Y.

Should I buy a Gen V game, too? I still have Pearl, which can be played on the 3DS (and Emerald, which can’t). I don’t have any systems that can connect to wi-fi (just a barely-functional DS Lite) so I can’t do Pokébank or trade with myself.

TL;DR: What would you recommend me, someone who is interested in getting back into Pokémon after leaving after Pearl, to buy?
