As much as I love Gourgeist, Trevenant outclasses her in almost every way.

Harvest + Sitrus gives it better lasting power even with lower Defense, and higher Attack and better physical moves means it can actually threaten opponents outside of subseeding/WoW.

Gourgeist should have been a special attacker, but they fucked her up and made her almost the same as Trevenant but with no good attacks or abilities. The only sets she has that set her apart are either Small size because of speed, or Frisk + Trick.

In what way? You lose a ton of bulk and attack, and then you're not outrunning anything important at all from base 99 speed at your absolute maximum, giving up half your EVs. But even if you do that, you're still slower than just having a jolly super use flame charge.

What relevance does outspeeding have when 90% of the time, you won't actually be outspeeding any of those to hit them before they hit you
The best you can say is that you can tank a hit from them

And the entire point of the super size is that it tanks hits better due to increased defenses.

Defense doesn't change based on size, just HP. There's a 30 HP difference between small and super sized max HP gourgeists at lvl 50. Meanwhile there's a 50 point difference in speed between the two at max speed at lvl 50. The difference in attack is effectively irrelevant since you never invest in attack on gourgeist anyway and actually physically attacking something is next to never it's main source of damage. I haven't seen any calcs that point out that Gourgeist needs that HP to avoid a OHKO from something of relevance. Usually if something OHKOs Small it will OHKO Super too since it still takes a pretty strong SE attack to OHKO a small gourgeist.

Faster is also more important for sub seeding. And smaller HP pools is also more important for pain split sets.

Small has so many more options in what it can do compared to Super. It's just a shame the only size anyone ever cares about is Super.

I've been running Gourgeist since day 1 and I have to say it's amazing. It encouraged me to MM and supersized one and I did. My moveset is standard burn subseed set.

When you breed a Gourgeist/Pumpkaboo, is the baby the same size as the mother, or is it randomized?
I don't know what it is about Gourgeist but it's really cute and I want one, even if it doesn't put up much of a fight.

Okay so I think I set up my gourgeist a little wonky.

Mine has HP and Attack IVs. I originally used is as a Trick Room set Explosion Gourgeist.

I've retooled it to work by itself with

Lefties
Phantom Force
WoW
Leech Seed
Protect

Now I'm considering two things, I'm thinking as I've been using this on my doubles team on WiFi, protect is going to be superior to Substitute, but I'm not entirely sure. Second, I like Phantom force for the surprisingly decent damage it deals as well as wasting a turn for burn and health recovery. I'm really lacking in the priority department on my team however so maybe shadow sneak would be the safer opton, I've had close calls with ghosts hitting me during phantom force also.

Also I'm thinking of breeding a separate one for a crazy strategy, let me know what you think.

I came up with this to lead with Snorlax, though I guess Tyranitar could work as well. The idea is to set Trick Room turn one, and on turn two, use Trick or Treat on the partner, giving him immunity to Close Combat and Superpower, not fun for a Snorlax. Snorlax then does this thing while Gourgeist has the luxury of either Trick or Treating enemies (Making Crunch Super Effective), Burning them, or just Exploding without worrying about hurting your normal/ghost companion.

It was my first online match, and Gourgeist was the only one I had bred for IV's (and my first IV 'mon ever).

I prefer Confuse Ray to WoW because people who know what they're doing won't bother with physical attacks against a super-sized Gourgeist. Besides, the strategy with her is to prevent attacks while healing constantly; confuse ray is better than WoW for that.

Gourgeist-Super has much better stats, but Trevenant has much better abilities.

It's hard to choose.

If you want a pure physical roadblock ghost, Gourgeist is better. Otherwise go for Trevenant's shenanigans.

It was originally trained to explode in somethings face so my TR sweeper had a free switch. I would reset them but I haven't had any issues tanking hits with it and phantom force knocks huge chunks of health off of things, enough to not make a fuss about it.

sure I did it the slow way at first and didn't know about destiny knot and gave them all nicknames rather than just marking their IV's, but it was a lot of fun and Pumpkaboo/Gourgeist has a permanent spot on my future teams
