The biggest problem he has had sweeping Gens 4 and 5 is he sub-par speed and his mega evolution fixes that.
However, I do think it is a bit too quick to be making judgments, but at the moment, he is easily one of the better megas and if he were banned, I wouldn't argue. People on Smogon are already including him with Kangaskhan as overpowered in the latter's tiering discussion thread.
