Buy potions and use them for HP healing, and learn how to manage your PP with Ethers. It's easier than it sounds, because the games are really generous with PP recovery items.

It's certainly generous with healing NPCs, and trainers don't use a lot of Pokemon so I still don't see it being that hard. Plus, you can just grow Leppa Berries.
