ITT we give theories on where the Mega Pokemon come from.

The official Pokemon X/Y site says this about Mega Aerodactyl

>Aerodactyl is a Pokémon that is revived from a Fossil, and some researchers insist that its Mega-Evolved appearance is the true appearance that Aerodactyl had before being fossilized.

Other Mega's should also have logical reasons to evolve further.

Alakazam seems to represent the Hindu idea of inner peace.
I'm not sure about Gengar and Medicaham. They also show shades of it with Gengar opening his third eye and Medicham gaining additional arms.

I don't know much about Hinduism or Buddhism.

What nobody realizes is this:

The plate on its belly is an obvious allusion to the pouch it will one day have

the plate is blue, though, because there is already another wee babby Kanga developing in there.

By the time the young adolescent Kanga turns brown and finishes growing to full size, the pouch will pop open and there will be a new baby ready and waiting.

So Ampharos's Japanese name has a pun on dragon in it, which kind of explains the type, but was there actually a reason it loses its wool as it evolves? I've always assumed increasing static charge, but that might not really make much sense.

In any case, yeah, Amphy grew its coat back and got fabulous.

Because it can't sweep entire teams by itself without any support.

135 Speed + STAB Volt Switch + Intimidate is a great combo that no other Pokemon has. Lando-T is the only other one that comes close.

Also, with the pre-evo's Lightningrod, if you can get that to trigger you can deal loads of damage. Gyrados, whose big face just screams "USE LIGHTNING" makes a great teammate, and he's immune to ground.

The real reason is that everybody wanted Charizard to be a Fire/Dragon type.

As for a logical reason...maybe he wanted to fit in with all the dragons? Maybe all the dragonite laughed at him and called him a poser, so then he was all "Fuck your shit" and turned into a real dragon.

Any Monster Hunter fans out there know that being a Dragon is sort of more of a title than it is the physical description. In Monster Hunter, a Wyvern (Rathalos) can become a Dragon, or at least partially one, if it lives long enough. More advanced creatures in the MonHun universe are typically closer to dragons, even if they visually lack the descriptions (Deviljho just looked like an inflamed Trex)

Pokemon sort of takes that whole Dragon=title thing too (Hence why Tyrantrum is a Dragon and Charizard's not normally). I like to think it's working off the same principle.

Exactly. Although because I think it would be an unfair advantage Machamp would have over his rival Conkeldurr, durr and the others probably should get Megas too. Then again, Gen V already benefited from power creep. I'm so conflicted.

It's bad for a mega, good for a normal pokemon.

It definitely works because Mega's are good by nature, but it's niche qualities are something better suited to something else, and it "wastes" a mega slot.

Manectric's issues weren't its stats. It's subpar ability (which hasn't really been helped) and shoddy movepool were it's issues. The Mega helped none of that. Electric/Fire still gets walled by a lot.

Valid concern. I wonder why they could only be activiated during battles. If the trainer is outside battle but needs to be save, could the pokemon sense it and mega-evolve?

Perhaps mega evolving strains the pokemon, so it's only used when it's necessary.

In-game, that translates to battles. There's probably nothing preventing pokemon from mega evolving whenever, it's just there's no need to.

I'm basically drawing this from how Digimon does things.

Remember how fish, like, can become male or female under circumstances?
This applies to most of the megas.
Venusaurs bloom during mating seasons so venusaurite has aromas that make its dick hard.
Charizards that grow up in the mountains turn into charizard Y during mating season to fight.
Charizards turn into charizard X during certain hunting seasons

I like to think that the Charizard line evolved from what used to be Fire/Dragon types, but over time the Dragon genes basically took a backseat to Flying type genes and thus were not expressed, and Charizardite X reacts with that part of its genome and makes it dominant again. Megazard X is basically the creature that Charizard used to be thousands of years ago. Megazard Y is what they were mating with that caused the Dragon type to be replaced with the flying type.

Dragon has a bunch of weaknesses and no real strengths. The only type they get 2x against is other dragons.

Dragon-typing a pokemon is a convenient way to nerf it. Garchomp is an excellent example of this. If Garchomp wasn't dragon type, it'd probably be in Uber. Dragon type exists to help make OP pokemon slightly less OP, that's it.

That's why I like garchomp.

It's dragon-esque, but without having any of the usual reptilian features.

It's like what dragons would look like if they were super-sharks instead of super-lizards.

Japan tends to associate dinosaurs as being dragons. I'm p.sure that's why Tyrantrum is one.

I believed that Tri mentioned that the only real qualifications for being an Elder Dragon are having an insanely long lifespan and enough power to create natural disasters through its natural behavior, like the earthquakes triggered by the Ceadeus.

Except it fires hydro cannon from its mouth, not its cannons.

Gamefreak new it'd kill shit with that much power and didn't use the cannons in the animation. It's intentionally holding back in battle.
