Does anyone know how to get this background on the battle screen? I'm thinking it's the one called "Pikachu" but that one only has Pikachu on it.

You've got to print it out and glue it to the lower 3DS screen. Make sure to cut out spaces for the buttons.

Has Marill always been on there? Maybe I just never noticed it until now. I only used that background for a couple of battles before changing it.

Yeah, in a thread a few days ago someone shopped Marill in there to attempt to prove that Marill counts as a Pika-clone. They did not do a good job.
