Is there a canon when it comes to canon MCs and stuff on the games?

The only canon part I can get so far is regarding Gen 1, with Red being the new Champion, while Green/Blue ends being a gym leader, and Leaf not being canon at all.

I'd love to see GF actually specifying more about the canon in each game. I don't like how Gen 1 seems to be the only one with a real canon.

Technically both MCs are canonical in the first Black/White if you count being partnered with the one of the opposite sex in the Battle Subway as canonical enough.

Where do you get the Hilbert references in BW2 from, though? I thought they were left intentionally vague and referred to "that trainer" only until a Memory Link was completed.

Not sure if it is on the western releases (or how it was translated), but on the jap release, if you play as Rosa and met that gay dude on the amusement park, he starts crying about how he was waiting for almost 2 years for him to appear and how he played with his feelings and stuff like that.

What's that?

Yellow is just RGB but anime flavored. Can't remember how different is the "plot" compared to the rest.

Nintendo doesn't give two shits about Orre but it's in my personal canon regardless since I love those games. As for Yellow? Not sure so I just picked Red and Blue.

i dunno, GF seems to like Serena a lot more than Calem. She has more clothes, she appears in the anime, and she seems to gel a little better with the setting than Calem.
Then again, Calem and Hilbert seem really dull to me...and Nate's hairstyle makes me hungry for pineapple. And I don't even like pineapple.

y'know...that pic brings up a lot of my theories about the BW anime...
Like how, more than any other season, it seems like they intended to use a different protagonist than Ash/Satoshi, and how Iris' early dialog would fit an older teenager like Hilda more than a fellow brat like her.
Then again X/Y reinforces my theory that they just take the gym leaders, put em on a dart board, throw the dart at the board, and make the one it hits a traveling companion.
What could have been: "Sir...it landed on Valerie..."
"WONDERFUL! Someone for the contests! Just age her down 10 years and give her a bratty little brother to keep the gender balance."
"But, sir, we'd have to..."
"DO IT! PIKACHU COMMANDS IT!"

At the end of B2/W2, N goes to find Hilda/Hilbert after he gives you the legendary, and Hilda/bert's mom mentions she hasn't heard from their child for a long time.

So I assume N and Hilda/bert meet up again at some point. Or not. Whatever.

As close as you would come to a canon for the protagonists is what you read in Pokemon Adventures, other then that, however you play the game is your character's personal canon, as I don't think Gamefreak really cares to create any type of intricate canon for the protagonists.

Also, Red isn't the Champion if you take in Gold and Silver, that's like saying Brenden is the Champion of Ruby and Sapphire when you beat the game, or Lucas is in Diamond and Pearl.

Other than Red, it's left deliberately ambiguous as to which PC is the true MC of each game. Cynthia mentions in BW that you remind her of "that strong trainer in a faraway land", obviously referencing the Sinnoh MC, but it's not clear if she means Lucas or Dawn.
I think Steven mentioned a strong trainer in HGSS, but again, we don' t know if he meant Brendan or May.

I honestly never saw the whole supposed romantic inclination between the two. Their interaction is basically the same as Hilbert and N's, and both Hilda and Hilbert have closer and better established relationships with Bianca and Cheren which I see as primarily friendship anyway.

And before anyone says them chasing after N, going after a mentally scarred and possibly unstable kid with a god dragon doesn't exactly mean they want him to stick it in their pooper.

I think a lot of people liked how the interactions looked with the female trainer during the ferris wheel and the ending, so they decided to make it look like romantic (I do loved how the ending looked, it was somewhat heartwarming).
It all about personal preference, since as you said, it was always the same dialog.

While on this subject, yes, Yellow is canon. As is Crystal, Emerald and Platinum; the paired versions and remakes are (for the most part) non-canon.
Protagonist Gender gen III onward has little effect on the story, so it really doesn't matter. Whichever you prefer.
