I'll just clarify that it's not about her feelings confused but even in her personal bio under her picture, it pretty much states "A girl that lives in the Kalos region. She loves Fashion! When Serena was still young she has once met Ash before , and the Serena's truth about Ash is that... " this is a way for the writers/ creator of the picture to tease the shipping people if Serena's one sided crush is canon or not. They don't want to reveal the truth yet basically.

Lot of people have stated this but the director is completely new this time around who worked on various animes that were considered "masterpieces" (kaiji, one outs, hunter x hunter)

You know what will happen? Serena will be inspired by Ash to become a trainer that can stand as his equal for her character development. She'll admit her feelings to herself but decide that she won't confess to him until she manages to succeed at her goal.

Then Ash moves on to a new region and everything is left dangling forever (until they want to tease us some more and they give Serena a cameo that will resolve nothing).
