I want to get into competitive battling, but it doesn't seem like the easiest thing to get into.

Is there a guide anywhere that goes over common strategies used and how to build a not shit team? I've never done anything more than put a bunch of pokemon in that hit really hard.

I've seen some people say just make a team, go online, get your ass kicked, and then modify your team so your ass doesn't get kicked. But breeding and EV training takes a long ass time. I don't want to make a team and then immediately find out everything is shit.
