Since you're seeing 5 mareeps at once, I'll say horde battle odds are around the same as MM.

Just don't be as lucky as that one guy who found two shiny mareeps in the same horde.

Not hunting today, breeding. I just got my first Insomnia Pumpkaboo w/Disable+Destiny Bond as egg moves, so I'll be breeding her for IVs now. I really want to start properly breeding Deino (one of my favourite Pokemon) later, but I'm unsure what Pokeball to put it in. Luxury Ball is the only thing that comes to mind, I'll need to go to Victory Road to catch a female.

Uh, well, I haven't got anything yet, but that inspirational video up thread has me feeling like I could get a few more boxes in before I break down in tears. The only problem is that i've lost track of how many boxes i've gone through. I know it has to be between 50-60 boxes. Maybe I'll just stop keeping count at this point. Okay here we go. Listen to this.

1. Have a pokemon with suction cups in the front of your party. (can be fainted)
2. Fish near rocks to insure a bite
3. Use rod you want to find a certain kind of pokemon
4. fish
5. different POKEMON does NOT break your chain. Only NOT GETTING A BITE or REELING IN TOO SOON breaks your chain. Chain fishing is entirely different than regular chaining, but we assume the the same "after 40 encounters the rate for shinies jumps" rule still applies. RUN AWAY from non shinies, do not kill them.
6. keep fishing until shiny, once you encounter a shiny your chain is broken

Incorrect. You can faint them or run away.

I caught my Dragonair by fainting everything in it's path, including a shiny Poliwhirl. Only catching, not getting a bite or reeling too soon breaks the chain.

I think it would have been cooler if they had done different colors than just a gold pallet instead of blue, like maybe flipping the colors or something else. The shiny for espurr is almost a pink gray instead of a plain gray, I don't know where they got gold from that.

I'm tempted to soft reset for Groudon or Rayquaza in SoulSilver since I learned you can transfer from gen4 games to gen5 games via 3DS and DS (didn't know 3DS would work with DS)
How many resets does it normally take for a shiny? What nature should I go for?

I'm not sure about natures, but SRing rules apply to random encounter rules in the gen you're attempting it at. So expect it to be 8K+.

A long time ago when they did the Darkrai event I got my shiny Darkrai in 50 SRs. Got lucky as shit. But when I attempted Rayquaza I gave up around 5k. Can't wait to transfer it to X.

You can also put it up on the GTS for any legendary. People will take the offer unless it's a fishing shiny.

Ever get a random shiny stuck in your head? I keep thinking I should go for a Omantye, even though I have no history with it at all and it's only a purple shiny. But it's something I can't see many people having.

Truly, Goodra is brilliant Pokemon. I play her slightly more defensively though, with Hydration. I'm tempted to lose Dragon Pulse for Thunder (Sludge Bomb is excellent for Fairies, and the 50% boost from my Rain Dance Kabutops for Muddy Water is devastating). Tempted to change for Sludge Wave, but Poison chance goes goes 30% down to 10%.

It depends on the length of the egg cycle of the pokemon you're hatching.
It is technically more efficient to replace eggs as they hatch, but if you IV check after they hatch it's easier to just go to Centrico Plaza and hatch there because you can process the whole batch.
Centrico Plaza is also easier to do in the background while you watch a movie or something, which is honestly a bit better than the small boost in efficiency you get by replacing the eggs one by one.

I'm hatching swirlixes which have an average amount of steps to hatch. I find it fastest to pick up 5 eggs, use hatching o-power lvl 2, hatch 4, deposit the 4 in a box, pick up the next 5 (the fifth egg hatches in the progress of picking up the eggs of the next batch, repeat, use hatching o-power lvl 3 for the final batch of the box, wonder trade the box, repeat. I haven't done any hatching this weekend because I got x on my jap 3ds recently and am going through the game with a shiny sweet veil swirlix. I stopped on box 52 but will pick it up later, gonna hatch a 5 iv swirlix on the jap version so I can have the shiny swirlix I want in a premier ball instead of a pokeball
