Before x and Y came out, there was a lot of hype for Barbaracle because it looked like it would be great competitively. What happened, I never read about it in the battle threads.
Wouldn't it be a great counter to Talonflame and be able to at least stand up to Mega Kanga?

I have been using him and he's an amazing counter to Talonflame. You don't even have to worry about receiving damage while switching in, he takes a brave bird like it's nothing. You can then proceed to shell smash while your opponent either switches out or keeps Talonflame in to do little damage.

It's a pretty decent shell smasher but it'll probably end up in UU.
Would have been a lot better if both of its STABs didn't have a high miss chance.
Also I'm still butthurt because it can't learn Waterfall.

The problem is that M-Gengar running a perish song can essentially pick any pokémon and kill it so long as it's already mega evolved and they can't escape.
Mega Gengar switches out in the turn Perish Song ends and the foe is still trapped, thus it acts like a really slow OHKO move.

Other than that you're right, there are better water moves than Razor Shell and rock types don't have a good high accuracy move stronger than Rock Slide.

There is literally no reason for them to not have given it Waterfall either.
If Barbaracle got both of those things it would be all set to go to OU and dispute the title of best Shell Smasher with Cloyster.
