This thing is very easy to take down if you play your team right. I've taken it out with Sharpedo, Chandelure, Ttar, Manetric, Heliolisk, Vaporeon, hell even a Cradily after it swapped into a Sub.

Point is, it's not amazing. It's very monodimensional and extremely easy to predict. If you're losing to it everytime, as much as I hate to say it, people are right when they tell you to "git gud".

It should never be sent to Ubers.

this is why it is very manageable. Sure, it can roost, but it has to roost immediately after getting a kill, or before, and in both cases it's trivial to pressure it off. I dont think it's that healthy for the meta, but I play hpyer offense and I have no trouble with it.

Send him out on something that won't OHKO him (26% or more left preferably). Perish Song. Protect. Sub/disable. Switch out and laugh as your opponent flops like a fish and dies. Come back later with either a strong special attack move or just destiny bond something slower than you for another freebie (easy with 130 speed). Laugh because you had complete control over these kills and have just removed 2 of your opponents biggest threats to your team.

On /vp/ everytime you argue with someone about competitive, you have to define to them the basic terms of the game, as if it's their first time playing the god damn game.

OP, to put it simply, talonflame is not in any way broken by definition. It doesn't overcentralize the game, forcing you to run only a select few things. If you get consistently beat by it, your team is poorly built. That's all there is to it.

I'm saying a stealth rock weakness isn't nearly as bad as it was in gen 5 because many pokemon who used pebbles can no longer use it. Plus all you need is a solid rapid spinner and the weakness is patched up pretty nicely. Still wouldn't run more than 2 pokes with a weakness to S.R though.

But yeah, you're absolutely right. SR isn't a huge problem this gen overall due to defog, and even so, the opportunity cost for running Megazard X or Y is well worth it.

Defog now clears the field of all stage hazards, safegaurd and screens on both sides, in addition to lowering the foes evasion.

It gives you an option to play with no hazards, and is distrubuted VERY nicely. Interestingly, it's also a huge reason why Bisharp is rising in usage.

He means as opposed to Rapid Spin, which only clears your side of the field.

As for Defog, you've got a ton of options. As is, the only good one is Mandibuzz. Once pokebank get's released, the skys the limit.

Gliscor, Scizor, Latias, Mew, Crobat, Zapdos, Skarmory, Flygon (if used for a scouting U-turn set), Empoleon, and Togekiss are all viable users of defog. Find whatever works best with the rest of your team, really.

Bisharp doesn't get it, but Bisharp benefits from it's use. Bisharp gets defiant, which is a free Swords dance everytime a stat gets lowered. Along with ridding the field of hazards, Defog lowers the foes evasion. That equates to a free SD upon switch in for Bisharp.

That along with Dark getting a huge buff this gen, Sticky Web, Aegislash, the abundance of Ghosts and a more viable Knock Off and Rock Polish set means that Bisharp is rising in usage.

There's a good chance of it being OU, yeah. Steel/Dark is great neutral coverage, it hits hard, boosts very very easily, has multiple different sets to run, deals well with the common threats, has a rarely resisted Sucker Punch and doesnt have to worry about Fighting types as much this gen.

If it's not OU, it'll certainly be viable.

I think I've put more thought into the imaginary world in which Hydreigon's Attack and Speed are swapped than what's healthy.....

But yeah, Dusknoir's a tricky case, but don't worry too much about Hitmontop. He's OU viable, for sure. Probably won't make the cut off tier wise, but that bastard's got a ton of utility.

I'm not sure there was ever a source, but the rumor started because someone pointed out the only plausible purpose of the blue pentagon mark on every Pokemon was to distinguish that they were caught/hatched in Gen 6. Still doesn't prove that only Pokemon with the mark can battle online. It's just a theory.

Either way, I feel that there's a vast minority of Pokegen users compared to actual players. You gotta imagine, like half of the user base are kids, so I can't picture GF cockblocking them. But I guess only time will tell.

Hydreigon's actually still used a fair amount. Fairy isn't a dominating force this gen, and having a relatively fast Dark type user in this Ghost generation is very welcomed.. Plus Dark is a good monotype move now that Steel lost it's resistance, so Scarfing it doesn't hurt as bad.

Duskull can survive three with ease. Bronzong could take a million hits of bravebird like it was nothing, and can survive fire moves with some nice counters to smogon bird pretty well.

Do you guys mostly play on Showdown or Wifi? Since I've been playing on Showdown with people who use a lot of the Poke Bank pokemon and I have no problem with Talonflame as long as I predict and set up the situation right.

I guess. I just fear the worse. I'm a breeder, and I don't mind people battling using Pokegen at all. I'm just afraid that finding people willing to trade 4 IV leftovers and whatnot is going to get a lot harder once Pokebank comes out if Pokegen is usable.

I'm in the same boat as you. I pokegenned a ton of stuff back in 5th gen when breeding was still shit, but now that it's not so bad I'm back to breeding and will likely stay that way.
Stuff will probably lose value, but not anything that's 6th gen exclusive.

The idea is that you don't have to suddenly deviate from your party-based strategy just to counter some shitty bird. I build trick room teams made up of ghosts mostly. Duskull (and dusknoir honestly) can chuck Smogon bird into the dusk pretty fast while having at least two turns of trick room to will-o-wisp/disable whatever follows up.

There are a lot of interesting counters to the smogon bird besides having to save a spot for a rock or bulky water type.
