Due to the nature of magnetism, N, or red, repulses other N, or red, and attracts S, or blue, and vice versa.
Now go look up Magneton's design. You see his magnets? See how they always put blue next to blue and red next to red? Yeah, that completely undermines the whole magnetism thing. COMPLETELY. It is the equivalent of making Klinklang's two cogs rotate in the same direction: it just doesn't work that way.
Magnezone at least attempts to fix that whilst making a unique (because how many other UFO Pokemon are there?) and interesting development for the idea of magnetized eyeball things.
