Because most of us were dumb 10 years old who didn't know that headbutting trees means finding your bug bro. This is only applicable to the orginal Gold.Sliver games. In HGSS you have no excuse since they are common as fuck when you headbutt teh trees/

Did the scrappy really matter?

I don't even remember how I managed to beat her as a kid, because I never caught a Heracross. I think I just grinded until I was like five or six levels above her.

Roark's Cranidos was the one that gave me the most trouble of any gym leader pokemon, because
-It outspeed nearly all of the pokemon you have that could hurt it at this point of the game (having Turtwig as starter didn't help)
-It hits like a truck
-Fucking RNG that make its headbutt flinched my pokemon 80% of the time
-When I want to switch to heal one of my pokemon, bam,pursuit

Gold:

Crytal:

And in Heart Gold:
