Anon is right you have to breed for it but you never know yours might have it. There's an npc in game who will tell you what kind of HP you'll get. If it's not an HP you like you can alway go dark pulse.

I use Grass Knot, Scald/Surf, Ice Beam and Dark Pulse. But the final move is pretty much whatever you want to run. I've seen things as gimmicky as Mat Block on it.

Well I don't have ev's invested in attack so I don't see the point of it. I put a life orb on greninja out to do damage till it drops so I'm not really looking to save it with a switch because mine is a glass cannon.

A lot of players run U-Turn and a -Def or -SpD nature instead of a -Atk nature. Or even just have U-Turn and still be Timid/Modest, since U-Turn is mostly just used for a tiny bit of damage while still getting a switch before being hit, rather than for doing large damage.

tbh Grass Knot is only really useful against a few common things anyway. It does shit all to Rotom-W, given how light it is.

That's the standard set. You should especially ignore ayone that suggests running Dark Pulse since Greninja gets STAB on EVERYTHING there's no reason to run it..

Not only does it let you switch out of trapping abilities/moves it also has lower priority than an opposing switch so if they predicted you to use Hydro Pump for example and switched into their Vaporeon but you U-Turn you now know that they've switched to Vaporeon meaning you can switch to your Ferrothorn or whatever and get momentum.

It's not the best. It hits some types like rock, fairy, and ice for some decent damage but steel has weaknesses to fire and a bunch of other types.

There's no point running any HP on Greninja. It doesn't have the power to kill anything with it, especially HP Steel which lets you hit a grand total of 3 (never used) Pokemon for 4x effectiveness.

Your choice but it's a big trade off because Greninja really doesn't hit hard as it is and you'll miss the extra damage from Hydro Pump a lot.

Yeah it can but you're rarely going to be in a situation to do that, especially with Ferrothorn's low usage this gen (even lower now that MKang is banned) and people currently running Genesect instead of Scizor (which outspeeds you with a Scarf and OHKOs with U-Turn even if you've gotten rid of your Dark typing). HP Fire is usable but the only thing I'd switch out for it would be Spikes.

The best part about running Spikes is you can use it to give yourself immunity to would-be TBolt users AND get the Spikes layer down. On top of that a well played Greninja can force quite a few switches which gives you even more opportunities to get some more layers down. I suggest trying it out but if it doesn't work for you try out HP Fire/Taunt/Grass Knot.

honestly im pretty new to the competitive scene so ill probably just make a set, battle a few people, see what does and doesnt work and go from there

I've run a lot of different Greninja, physical attackers, special attackers, support. He's cool and all, but to be honest he doesn't do as much work as some of my other mons and the fact that a cool breeze will knock him over doesn't help.

Don't run Focus Sash. The only viable things you should ever run a Sash on are Alakazam and Smeargle. Also, the beauty of running Spikes is that you get that Electric immunity to bullshit around with.

If this is Doubles you're talking about this all changes though as what's good in Singles is COMPLETELY different to what's good in Doubles and I'm not really good at Doubles so I shouldn't be giving you advice for it. Try checking out /cpg/ for some Doubles help (>>16731071)

Lol no. The standard set is U-turn, Hydro Pump/Surf, Dark Pulse and Ice Beam, but I prefer HP Fire or Grass in place of U-turn.

Question about Mat Block, I run it on my Greninja since I play Doubles almost exclusively. It's only worked like once or twice though. What's up with that? Does it has a low accuracy that I didn't notice or something?
