I agree. Stadium animations had personality. Now all the Pokemon are static and boring, ALTHOUGH that's mostly gen 1 Pokemon. Many of the gen 2 and up Pokemon kept their original animations. And a couple gen 1 did too, like pic related

X and Y is leagues above every 3D Pokemon game except Battle Revolution. Literally the only thing older 3D Pokemon games have over X and Y is more personality with the animations, but that's probably because they were working with far less Pokemon, and didn't have to budget between Amie animations and the like. The lack of personality is understandable, but I still miss it. Pic very much related.

One thing that kept them from doing animations like that is the fact that they had to keep the battles shorter since it's on handheld. I think that's why there's no recoil animation that lasts longer than half a second. It's a shame, but it's also great since it's handheld. But, I'm just hoping they have a battle sim on the Wii U. Stadium XY plz. If they don't, I'm a programmer, and I'm just autistic enough to make one of my own. Maybe that's what I can work on while I'm on break.

Why is everyone in this thread so desperate to defend the graphics in X/Y? It's okay to admit they're a disappointment.

There's always next gen, though. Look at the visual jump from gen 4 to gen 5. Same hardware, far more impressive animations.

Some Pokemon were still using N64 fucking models with filters stuck on top to make them look more modern cheaply. I'm sure an exorbitant amount of work went into X and Y's actually new models for all 720 Pokemon.

How many battle animations do most XY Pokemon have? One or two physical and special attacks, a recoil animation, a Taunted animation I think, and fainting.
It'd be nice if at least some Pokemon got a unique animation for their signature moves or something.

Gen 5's sprites and animation are actually of a lower quality than Gen 4's. It just looks better because the entire Pokemon is visible from behind, and because it's animated all the time.

One thing that always bothered me is the obvious difference in art style between Gen 5 Pokemon's sprites vs the original 4 Gen's sprites. The originals had shading. The new Pokemon had like one color. They looked so fucking out of place. Not that it matters anymore. And I understand why it was the way it was, thanks to dual-development. But still. Autism.

i prefer the simple shading too, but they didnt bother to make new sprites or even change the shading on the old sprites to make the gen 1-4 and gen 5 pokemon sprites the same artstyle, they just threw them on in there regardless.

i dont mind, it just looks weird to have them both in the same game when they're different styles.

Most Pokemon only have

1. Intro
2. Idle
3. Random Idle
4. Physical
5. Special
6. Faint

Some Pokemon like Pikachu, Pseudos, Legends or Volcarona have additional status, physical or special animations. Not sure how they're used though.

Genius Sonority dropped the ball on that one. The rental system was ass and while a good Wii tech demo, pacing was complete doodoo.

I love Stadium's animations, and some of the model features. The sharp look worked well.

XY has higher quality models obviously.

Only thing I'd change is to limit the items to Berries and such since it would just be Battle Tower but much easier.

X/Y, by far, it's just running at a lower resolution.

You need to look at the attacks and their visual effects, not the Pokemon.

Game Freak could've added texture filtering just fine. My theory is they purposely left the textures looking pixelated to give it the feel of the older games in 3D.

I think Pokémon battles in 3D should be much faster paced and more violent. Stadium had stronger sounding SFX for attacks and stuff like when Pokémon faint. I prefer the way Pokémon materialize in the air when sent out and then land on the ground in XY, but I find it's lacking in regards to sound. Like when Aggron is sent out he makes some wimpy ass sound upon landing when it should be a more threatening sounding thud. This sounds counter intuitive to wanting a faster paced battle, but I feel that Pokémon faint and return way too quickly in XY. As sluggish as Stadium is, the way fainting was handled is extremely satisfying. They let out their final cry and fall to the ground while slowly returning back to their Trainer. Makes you feel like you overcame a great obstacle. XY's 3D battling is still mostly superior though, I just appreciate some of the few quirks in Stadium.

did you not play battle revolution on wii? because they will probably do that with wii u. and i was very pleased with battle revolution on wii. not only because i am loyal pokemon fan, but because it was fun using pokegen to generate a bunch of pokemon and battling online with awesome visuals from the pokemon and their attack moves. i really want to see a battle revolution or stadium would be good too for wii u. i also want to see pokepark 3.

If the make Stadium 3 or something similar, they need to make new modals for all the pokemon. Even on PBR you could tell everything from Gen 1 still had their Stadium models, and some, e.g. Gengar and Machamp, were ugly as butt.
