He needs a new edge. In "Give this Pokemon an Ability" thread, I always pitch that Golem should get Dry Skin. It makes sense, right? He's kind of reptilian. But it would also not only eliminate his 4x Water Weakness, but turn it into a healing buff.

In the meantime, fucking Gigalith is the same shit, but does it all better. The only advantage Golem has is STAB Earthquake.

Nigga, Filter is a great ability (that helps his lack of bulk) and he's got great stats and a movepool to take advantage of it. He's got great Special Attack and access to Nasty Plot, and can use Calm Mind to buff his already amazing Special Defense. He's a surprisingly speedy motherfucker, too. He has a bunch of neat toys for Support, too - Baton Pass, the screens, Substitute, Trick, Thunder Wave, etc. And the Fairy retcon's cool, too. Mr. Mime's only real flaw is his pathetic HP and Defense.

A gimmicky as hell set that involves trapping a physically-oriented foe, and doing as much indirect damage as possible. Sand Tomb and Bind will tick 1/8 of their HP off every turn - double that to 1/4 with the Binding Band (but without Eviolite, Onix's Defense goes from criminally insane to simply spectacular) and then of course Toxic is Toxic. But with no recovery and 6 weaknesses, including 2 double weaknesses, it'd still be hard for him to last long.

With basically no attack stats to work with, I'm stumped on a solid set, but I tried. He gets access to Stealth Rock and Dragon Tail, so you can try something with that if you're really creative/desperate.

Onix Base Defense: 165

Maximum Defense (31 IV, Beneficial Nature, Maximum Investment): 460

Eviolite Boost = 460 * 1.5 = 690

Sandstorm boosts Special Defense, not Defense.

Standard tick damage is 1/16. The item Binding Band doubles it to 1/8.

Also, while checking this, I discovered that Bulbapedia says Ghost-type Pokémon cannot be trapped by Fire Spin. Interesting.

Upon evolution: Loses two 4x weaknesses, gains two immunities, and loses two weaknesses, period

Gains access to Gyro Ball, Crunch, and the Elemental Fangs

tl;dr Steelix is an enormous improvement on Onix, and functions as an amazing physical wall with solid offensive capabilities.

Yeah, I guess they do too.

They really should have given Delphox Thunderbolt at least, maybe even Scald since Emboar gets it. If they put a gem on the end of its wand, it could justify giving it Power Gem as well. Absolutely no reason at all for not letting it learn Dazzling Gleam.

He's in just the right speed tier to take advantage of rock polish, heavier so heavy slam does more damage, and only has three 2x weaknesses, which he doesn't even care about due to filter.

Fucking Garchomp's Earthquake only does 40% to him with zero investment in HP nor defense. Blissey can't even boast that at max HP and Defense.

He's nowhere near as bad as Mega Heracross, who is worse in every way compared to regular Heracross.

Yeah, his Coil set is usable, but still pretty shit.

Even if he got a Mega, he'd still be useless, as his BST is too goddamn low.
