That's not a ruse. That's you being stupid. Obviously people are trading away the Pokemon that got 5IV in the wrong stats. You'd be crazy to expect anything different, because once they get the 5 IVs they want, they generally stop. It's not like you're getting screwed, it's still good to use for breeding yourself.

Use it as a breeding point. 5IV is still pretty good, just give it a matching partner and roll with it.
