There were a lot of Gen 1 references and things like the starters/Lapras/forest, but honestly apart from those I didn't really feel like it was "lul gen 1" all the time, there were references to everything, such as in the art museum, the remix of Emotions from BW in Courmarine City, the Jubilife remix in Snowbelle, the Gen 5 cover legend statues, the Golurk statues, and lots of little random things.
I also really liked the selection of Pokemon. In particular there were a lot of Gen 5 Pokemon, which was pretty cool as I was expecting them to completely phase them out of existence almost until the end. Victory Road felt a lot like BW2's with the outer areas and wild Druddigon and Zweilous.
tl;dr this game reminded me of all the gens.
