Eh, that's fine.

I agree with most of their rules, but not all. For that, me and my friends use our own house rules.

For example, Excadrill had no business staying banned in BW2 OU. He was unbanned in DW OU, but real OU left him banned for some reason. We played with him anyways, among ourselves.

I do use substitute, though to be perfectly honest there are a lot of situations in which I'd have preferred Thunderbolt or Dazzling Gleam. I've tested both to great effect, so I'm starting to lean towards cutting it. In my experience people just like to hammer on Gengar when he shows his face and don't bother with status. Gengar's substitute just doesn't stand up to much. He rarely gets the opportunity to use it without an immediate fade.

Hm... Wisp and sub, eh?
My main concern is if I really need that if I'm running Gengar and Sableye on the same team.
Protect could be viable. Gengar outspeeds most other pokemon but it would be a good way to figure out if they're packing Sucker Punch.

Any other thoughts or ideas?

Back when MegaMilf was still around I had Sub and WoW on my Gengar just to counter the thing. As it would turn out, being able to burn shit came in handy really often. A lot of physical attackers like Tyranitar and Scizor are switching into Gengar so it's nice to be able to cripple them.

Also, what about a sub/hypnosis combo? I know the accuracy of hypnosis is shit, but it's not like it differs much from Focus Miss, and coupled with Shadow Tag it pretty much dooms the opponent.

It has it's flaws, but when you get to use it like it's intended, it's hilarious. I usually like to run my Gengar with a sashed Galvantula with sticky web, meaning Gengar will outspeed common things like Greninja and OHKO it.

The thing is, Sub is harder to use without Leftovers. But I imagine if you could put it up as an opponent switched, you'd be right. They really should have left the accuracy 70 like in gen 4.

Seems like it could cause a lot of trouble. I had heard hypnosis was a big part of what got the mega booted to ubers but I haven't tried it yet myself.

Sounds interesting. I wonder if Gengar might start becoming a more viable toxic user what with his sub skills and the fact that he's poison and its pretty much guaranteed. The thought of Sub Hex Toxic and Trick crossed my mind briefly.

As Gengar is Ken's favorite pokemon, it consistently receives new love with each generation. I don't think there's ever been a time that Gengar was considered competitively obsolete.

I ran a Substitute/Shadow Ball/Focus Blast/Sludge Bomb MegaGar on the ladder before it was banned. This thing is fucking crazy, demolishes physical walls with no effort and they can do nothing but sit there and take it. Then when you've severely weakened your opponent's helpless team you send in Choice Band Stoutland boosted by Sand Rush to mash Return from a boosted 110 base attack.

Gengar is a bro too, but he can't beat faster things (mainly Scarfers) and things like Chansey/Blissey with that set. The idea of the team was to set up hazards, trap physical walls with Gengar and then crush everything else with Stoutland. It was pretty effective for a team based around an NU.
