I have a rule where forced encounters, fossils and gift mons don't count as caught mons from the area, so it's going pretty well. I've reached the 2nd gym.
Other than that Mienfoo and my entire party in the Furfrou battle I have no deaths.

Just don't use the Exp share. The only reason the game is easy is because of the HP share, not because everyone has 3 mons or stuff like that.
You'll be underlevelled by 15-10 levels against the champion if you don't use it.

That's not really true. We are all nuzlocke savvy enough by now to more or less know what to expect from the champion level-wise. If anything, the E4 is now easier, and I predicted that Diantha would have at least one mon in its mid-70s. Oh well.

Also, Team Flare after Gym 7 is tough due to lack of places to grind. Be prepared for Lysander to kill at least one of your bros.

I got a Magnemite in Platinum with a Bold nature and took it to the end. Was super beastly.

Oddly, I'm not losing much at all in Soul Silver, especially compared to how bloody my Platinum run is, it actually makes it kind of boring in a way and less dramatic when you don't lose bros.

Do it without the exp share and no mega evolution. You'll be surprised at some particular difficulty spikes along the way. Team Flare prove to be a bitch purely because there are no viable places to grind for them at that point due to GF blocking paths

Should I just try a different game if I can't get one down? I've been trying B/W and B/W2 for ages and I've failed about 10 times on each game. There's almost no surprises now, but at the same time I'm still pretty disappointed at how terrible I am and I feel the need to finish it.

The bonus exp helps with getting a low level bro up to par when a comrade has fallen and needs to be replaced, plus it makes it near heartbreaking when an Amie'd mon dies

This. I'm doing a Soul Silver one (I've posted about 3 times in this thread already) and it just isn't as interesting.

Ironically in Platinum it wasn't the major battles where I lost anyone, but random trainers and wilds.

Raichu is a devil in my Nuzlockes too. Zac and Jen's one used Tail Whip to Gyara ended up killing my Torterra, another trainer's on Iron Island criticalled my Porygon2, killing it, and Volkner's almost killed my Gardevoir.

Then in Soul Silver, one of my few losses so far was to that one in National Park who decided to OHKO my Bellsprout with a critical hit Thunderbolt. Raichu always makes me paranoid as fuck now.
