Anybody dropping competitive battling due to it's repetitive nature? I'm sick of seeing similar strategies/same Pokemon. I get it, Smogon 'n all, but honestly, fuck this, I'm done.

I wish there was more creativity among trainers, but no, thanks to tiers and faggots. Fuck this shit. PokeBank isn't going to fix this bullshit either, just more overused pokemon added to the list.

You obviously have never cracked 1500 because past 1700 teams get really creative because smogon stock sets no longer work and people get intentionally anti-meta and the game is generally anticipatory. Only beginners use smogon sets because they don't have the sense yet to figure out what actually makes teambuilding work. Once you get good, your team gradually becomes more and more tailored to your specific strategy.

Call me sentimental, but I like putting in the work to breed and train Pokemon, so I don't do the whole hacking thing. So when you have to breed and train a team specifically to counter a strategy that you might not find, it makes the game extremely tedious.

It's not that the same Pokemon = the same strategy, it's that people who run strategies with Smogon Pokemon are boring as fuck and it's practically as good as it's going to good thanks to the breakdown of tiers. Stop trying to turn this argument into something tactical or based on skills. It's something that irritates so many people -- repetitive shit. Even if you can make strategies with a more creative team, the nature of tiers just nulls that and I'm merely irritated by that actuality and the adherence of faggots such as yourself abiding by it.

The problem is there's simply too many pokemon.They have to keep making new abilities and moves and types and changing type effectiveness to accommodate additions and the more they make more will fall short of the competitively viable mark.

The challenge comes with finding a team that can overcome the top tier teams but eventually there will come a time when it's the best of the best vs themselves because there are simply no other options. I'm not saying it's already there but when maybe 7 of the 70ish new pokemon are even remotely considerable without a successful reboot like BW attempted (emphasis on attempted) a crash isn't too far away. If Gen 1-4 pokemon weren't available to 5 the restart would have been more successful but we can only hope gen 7 gets it right

Dont know why, but it starts to piss me off when my friend begins with status effects or entry hazzards. I mean, I get why people do this shit for a battle online, but fuck, Id never do this shit when trying to fight the E4 or walk past Youngster Joey and that fucking Magikarp guy. Each fight would take for fucking ever and Id probably run low on PP by the time I get to the second battle.

Yeah, no, it's almost all standard between 800-1700.
Below that, it's people running shitmons or their in-games teams.
At 1850+ you can expect to see unique, coherent strategies (rather than just good shit slapped onto a team), as well as broken-as-fuck pokemon that no on pays attention to (like Landorus)

Generally if you're below around 1600~ (which is hwere most people reside) you'll find all the cookie cutter teams as it's mostly people who are new to comp or just not that great, so they build teams using the best in order to give themselves a better chance (not saying all do this, nor am I saying that people above this ranking always use smart and diverse sets etc.)

Around 17-1800+ is decent to good. 19-2000+ is where the good players reside, and is where you'll find most of the actual diverse and smart players. As an example, one of the best teams of last gen featured a defensive core of Amoonguss, Quagsire and Mandibuzz. The guy got to 2400+ using this shit which is pretty fucking hard to do.

tl;dr: Bigger number, better player.

Sounds to me like the issue isn't tiers themselves but the fact that Gamefreak's poorly balanced game causes pokemon to be delegated to certain tiers.

Seriously, if every pokemon (within reason of course, nothing like non-evolite unevolved stuff or something) were competitively viable against anything that's not a legendary, the game would probably be a lot more fun.

I would freaking love to be able to make a team of just my favorites (scattered throughout all the tiers) and not lose because cookie cutter pokemon have much higher BSTs.

Someone once suggested giving every single Pokemon a signature move that no other Pokemon got.

I think it would go a long ways towards making a bunch of "non viable" Pokemon more interesting in real battles.

Gamefreak also needs to stop sucking 3v3 cock so hard. There needs to be a 6v6 system. A full party of 6 Pokemon gives you MUCH better support to make up for different Pokemon's weaknesses.

In 3v3's you pretty much have to have every one of your Pokemon able to stand totally on their own.

Assuming you're not trolling you probably misunderstand how the tiers work.
Raticate is a shitty fucking pokemon. Because of that no one uses it which means it ended up in the lowest official tier: NU. Because it is in the lowest tier you are allowed to use it in any tier you want to. You can use it in OU along with Garchomp if you really want, but it's probably not going to do too well.

However in NU nobody is allowed to use Garchomp, and that means that Raticate is actually able to become a force to be reckoned with among all the other forsaken by GF pokemon.

The tiers do not restrict you from using what you want; they just create a space for you to use whatever pokemon you want in an environment where even shitty pokemon can shine.

It's much better than people give it credit for, and really takes people by surprise sense it doesn't get much use even in NU. STAB+Guts Facade hits pretty hard, and a lot of people don't realize it has things like Sucker Punch, and U-Turn. If only it got EQ... Reversal is a shitty thing to rely on to hit rock and steel types.

I've only really found much success using it with a slow Volt Switch/U-Turn/Baton Pass user like Probopass, Eelektross, or Musharna, but it can tear through some teams once it gets its orb going.
