Pretty much all of them are improved.
Rock type is truly shitty to have because it has the most weaknesses of any type (grass has 5 weaknesses too but poison weakness is almost an aftertought) and it forces you to run either inaccurate (Stone Edge, Head Smash) or underpowered STAB (Rock Slide, Power Gem, Ancient Power) STAB.

The only reason Terrakion and Tyranitar are any good is because of their high stats otherwise they'd never see the light of the day in OU.

Omastar and Armaldo got good. Kabutops got some speed/Aqua Jet already so the improvement is less apparent.

Bastiodon and Aurorus got less terrible. Hopefully pre-fossilization Electric Aurorus was fast so it could finally be as good as dat majestic design

Yeah I noticed Aurorus learns a ton of electric moves and it makes sense with her association with aurora borealis. Damn if she only kept that type... it really bugs me how the rock type is not only completely useless but also detrimental to her.

Omastar, Aerodactyl, Cradily, Armaldo, Bastiodon, Tyrantrum and Aurorus get better.

The others besides Rampardos actually get worse because rock STAB differentiated them from the competition.

One of my greatest hopes for either Z or the coming generation is some kind of research lab for prehistoric pokemon that has made some sort of huge discovery regarding their genetics or something, allowing them to revive the fossils normally, but also clone them from leftover genetic material in the fossils (or something like this, just a random placeholder idea) that allows them to retain their original typing/remove the tacked on rock type/whatever you want to explain it as. Aurorus has the potential to be an awesome pokemon, especially as an Ice/Electric type, Bastiodon would really make more thematic sense as a Normal/Steel (dem resistances/immunities) and generally all of them stand to be improved by removing rock type if nothing else. Just call it another form change that can be done/undone at the lab. Really you wouldn't even need a new model, though I suppose they'd had to have one to differentiate from the regular form, but it need not be anything huge.

Kabutops isn't a Bug type, it's not even in the Bug breeding group, and the one and only Bug move it can learn is X-Scissor via TM. These facts should disqualify it from being Genesect to anyone with common sense.

Just because they looked the same it doesn't mean they were the same type. Would you guess that Aurorus was a rock type if you didn't know it was a fossil? Of course not.
This reinforces the theory that the rock type is acquired after the fossilization.

It's called sharing a common ancestor.

And they can hardly be called near-identical when Genesect possesses an oval abdomen like an insect and Kabutops doesn't. The Pokemon who should actually be compared to Genesect is Scyther, as their entire torsos are very similar.

if anything, their fossils got so well preserved BECAUSE of their mineral-based structure/rocky-shells/other Rock-type feature.

It doesn't make fucking sense for them to gain the Rock type for essentially being "late clones".

They're not Rock because of being fossils, they're fossils because of being Rock.
