Man, what a jerk. "I'm the Professor's grandson! This Pokemon should be mine! I'm the best trainer in the world!" EVERYTHING a spoiled grandson should be, but like every good character, he realizes how wrong he was. I was glad to see his return in GSC. Instead of the bratty ten year old he used to be, Gary/Blue is now a cool and collected guy. However, his desire to beat everyone hasn't changed and tries to belittle the fact that you beat every leader in Johto and Kanto besides him.
Silver:
He has that Napoleonic complex that makes you hate him. "Humph! Useless Pokemon! You're a weakling!" He makes you feel inferior and want to destroy him in battle every time the bastard walks up to you.
May/Brendan
These characters suck. They're barely characters at all. They don't develop, they just leave. I'm sure GF wanted kids to be less focused on beating every trainer and more focused on the love and bonding aspect.
Barry
An actually competant rival, but is missing the strong character that the first two rivals had. I don't mean a cocky little kid, but please, don't just be a friend.
Cheren/Bianca
Same tier as May/Brendan IMO, their focus is not beating you but enjoying Pokemon. Cheren is actually a trainer, while Bianca is a clueless companion to hers. BW attempted to have both a "nice" rival and competitive rival, but they still disappointed me.
The rest, forget them.
