Question, what the heck makes a pokemon "legendary?"

I mean a few of them have no excuse for being "legendary" some are mortal and will just die in a few years.

some have children which means they can't be too special (lugia)

What happens when a legendary dies?

Basically lore and myth surrounding the Pokemon. The more outlandish the legend, the rarer or more sought after the Pokemon.

There's really two types of legendaries: those that are simply very rare Pokemon and those that actually exist as part of some sort of legend. I know the Japanese differentiate between these two groups, but I don't know about everyone else.

I'll never forget when I tried the Odd keystone thing and the shiny spiritomb showed up. I had a goddamn heart attack.

Haven't seen a shiny since though.

I haven't played X or Y yet and tend to avoid info on stuff I haven't seen, but that has my interested.

What the purpose of that? it's kinda a shitty pokemon in that case.

I like to imagine that legendary pokemon are the equivalent of our cryptids: animals that are so rare and/or powerful that they're rumored to be mythical. Except of course in cases like Arceus/Dialga/Palkia/Giratina, which are explicitly stated to be deities

And it's the natural of dead/rebirth thing. Old things die so new thing can be born later.
