The 3DS has given us the gift of 3D models, but with so many models of over 700 pokemon, the only way to cram them in was to skimp a little on the animations. They did their best, clearly, but the lengthier, much more elaborately characterized animations of the console games (which have all had to deal with far less pokemon) are able to do more.
