Team Plasma sure was busy in Kalos. First Colress studying the Ultimate Weapon graves, and now them digging Genesect out of Glittering Cave. There's also the hint that they might have asked about Xerneas/Yveltal.

Is it wrong that I'm honestly more interested in their side projects in Kalos than all of Flare's antics?

Nah, it isn't wrong. They are after all the team that gave us the best plot in a Pokémon game. And Falare was kinda disappointing. They had something good work to work with, but they throw it all out at the end in one rush and leaves you like "...wtf was that again".
