ITT: Unorthodox set

Do you used some unorthodox yet effective set /vp/?Tell us about them.

My friend used an offensive sword dance skarmory set with weak armor and it really caught people off guard.

I know the most effective set is already posted on Smogon and such, I just wanted to hear what unorthodox set you guys used

basically people think they're safe because of speed even though they're quad weak to ground/ice/fire so you get to oneshot a huge threat then double switch into a setup or wallmon.

Some of my mon is far from unorthodox, like Haxorus for example.

My team's main strategy is using tailwind with whimsicott to gain speed and sweep using helping hand boosted rock slide, and such.

Why Haxorus over something like garchomp and mence?Because Haxorus doesn't die from a Choice Banded Ice Shard coming from a Mamoswine and his ability, Mold Breaker would OHKO any rotom form that might try to will-o-wisp it.

Mandibuzz is a second tailwind user after Whimsicott faints, I mainly used her to taunt out supporter and knock off items after tailwind is up.

Mienshao is for gaining momentum and make enemies wasting turn.

Im thinking of replacing Porygon-Z with Volcarona, Volcarona just seems so much better.

My team is far from perfect, but I had lots of fun using it.

Seconding this. Critdra sucks because he has no speed. He sets up, and then gets fucking swept anyway because he can't keep up. /Not the case for this Blaziken, though.

Still, I can't help but think Swords Dance would be more effective in most cases. I guess Cirt Blaziken could work pretty well against things like Cosmic Power Clefable though.

Yeah speed boost is much batter than a dependence for rain for speed in a generation with little weather. Everyone expects blaziken to kill itself through blitz recoil or hjk misses, but this set removes all that risk. Crits plus life orb puts off nearly as much damage as a post-swords dance blaziken holding lefties. It's a gimmick set, so expectations are usually low. But using a gimmick on a viable poke like blaziken is fun, unpredictable (as suppose to cookie cutter smogon sets) and possibly successful.
