I have obtained a 3DS and Pokemon Y for Christmas.

I haven't played a Pokemon game since Diamond/Pearl, and before that it was Ruby/Sapphire.

So much shit in this new gen that I am just completely perplexed about. What is Wonder Trade? What's the point of all the worldwide people being displayed on the bottom screen? Is Poke Amie mandatory or is it just something to do so you don't get bored with the main story? And is it just me or was the forest in the first part of the game a direct 3D replica of Viridian Forest?
